Job Description XRD/XRF Chemist -- Corporate Headquarters A full-time position is available in our state-of-the-art environmental laboratory for a chemist to analyze deposit samples from industrial water systems, using X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Fluorescence and FTIR instruments. Garratt-Callahan, (), is a National Industrial Water Treatment Chemical Company since 1904. Our headquarters, and our national laboratory, are located in Burlingame, California near the San Francisco Airport. The Garratt-Callahan Company Analytical Laboratory is a State of California accredited laboratory that analyzes waters, deposits and corrosion coupons for the purpose of corrosion and scale control in industrial water systems. We also perform inorganic testing of drinking waters and wastewaters for regulatory purposes. JOB DESCRIPTION: Perform a variety of tests to analyze deposit and solid samples. The Chemist uses X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR spectroscopy, microscopy, photomicrography and other techniques to analyze the samples. Responsibilities also include: resin bead analysis, microbiological analyses, product formula analyses, and R&D support, including interfacing with customers, product managers and sales employees. The position is also responsible for maintaining the laboratory’s wastewater neutralization system. The position is full time, Monday-Friday. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a B.S. degree in chemistry or related field. Must have multiple years of experience in an environmental, analytical or research laboratory performing analyses. Experience with instrumental analyses (XRD, XRF, FTIR) is preferred. Must have excellent lab skills and strong computer and math skills. Must work well in a team environment.
