Job Description Job Title: Electrical Apprentice Job Description This role offers a hands-on opportunity to learn the electrical trade while working alongside experienced journeyman electricians on commercial, residential, utility, solar, audio-video, service, and fire projects. As an Electrical Apprentice, you will support daily electrical installations, develop core trade skills, and progress toward becoming a fully qualified electrician through on-the-job training and formal schooling. Responsibilities • Assist journeyman electricians with day-to-day tasks on commercial, residential, multifamily, utility, solar, audio-video, service, and fire projects., • Run and pull electrical cable and wire under the direction of a journeyman., • Run conduit, bend conduit, and install conduit systems on commercial projects., • Hang electrical boxes, fixtures, and related components according to project specifications., • Install and run Romex cable on residential and multifamily projects., • Use hand and power tools correctly and safely, following instructions and safety guidelines., • Retain and apply skills and techniques taught on the job and during training., • Read and use a tape measure accurately to 1/16 of an inch for layout and installation tasks., • Perform basic math (addition, subtraction, division) to support measurements and material calculations., • Support basic electrical troubleshooting activities under supervision., • Assist with installing solar-related components and equipment as needed., • Help with rough-in work, including bending pipe, feeding and pulling wire, and securing electrical boxes to studs., • Assist with finish work such as installing light receptacles, hanging lights, and replacing fixtures., • Follow construction drawings and directions from supervisors when performing electrical wiring tasks., • Maintain a clean and organized work area and care for tools and equipment., • Travel between job sites as needed within the assigned market using a valid driver’s license., • Follow all safety policies, wear required PPE, and adhere to site rules and dress code., • Demonstrate commitment to learning the trade, including shadowing, on-the-job training, and attending trade-related schooling., • Valid driver’s license to travel between multiple job sites as needed., • High school diploma or GED., • At least 1 year of experience using basic hand tools (such as screwdrivers, hammers) or prior electrical experience., • Ability to use hand and power tools correctly and safely., • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16 of an inch., • Ability to perform basic math efficiently, including addition, subtraction, and division., • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, and climb up and down a ladder for up to 8 hours per day., • Willingness to learn the electrical trade and participate in ongoing training and schooling., • Ability to follow instructions, retain newly taught skills, and apply them consistently on the job., • Prior electrical experience on commercial or residential crews., • Experience roughing in electrical work, including bending conduit, feeding and pulling wire, and securing electrical boxes to studs with drills., • Experience with finish electrical work, such as installing light receptacles, hanging lights, and replacing light fixtures., • Appliance installation experience., • Experience with conduit bending and installation., • Experience with electrical wiring, cable pulling, and electrical assembly., • Familiarity with basic electrical troubleshooting under supervision., • Experience working with solar panels or on solar-related projects., • Ability to read and work from basic construction drawings or blueprints. Work Environment The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with optional overtime occasionally available on Saturdays. Work is currently focused in the Des Moines market, with opportunities to work in other markets such as the Quad Cities or Omaha for those interested in travel. The role is field-based on active construction sites, including commercial, residential, multifamily, solar, and utility environments, where you will regularly bend, twist, kneel, and climb ladders throughout the day. The dress code requires jeans without holes, a professional t-shirt, and work boots (non-tennis shoes; steel-toe optional). Cut-off shirts and shorts are not allowed. All necessary personal protective equipment, including high-visibility vest, hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves, is provided. You are expected to bring and use your own basic hand tools and pouch, including a hammer, 25’ tape measure, Phillips #2 screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, and wire strippers. The environment is collaborative and safety-focused, with multiple projects running simultaneously and occasional travel between job sites during the day or week. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
