Job Description GENERAL SUMMARY Responsible for supporting physical and route security of the KCATA transit system and acting as a liaison with the local police to investigate crimes that occur in the transit system. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. • Provides support to assigned personnel, providing guidance and input in security operations., • Assists in developing and implementing departmental goals, objectives, and priorities for each assigned service area. Provides input regarding the creation of or adjustment to policies and procedures., • Collaborates with transit police officers, off-duty police officers, and the security contractor to investigate security incidents and crimes in the transit system., • Coordinates with bus operators and road supervisors to investigate, monitor, report, and prepare supporting documentation as required on security-related incidents and complaints from employees and customers., • Assists in coordinating Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Baseline Assessment & Security Enhancement (BASE) review with the Senior Director of Security., • Contributes to maintaining and updating the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and assists with exercises to test its efficacy., • Collaborates with Security Contractor to establish internal security audits and physical security inspections by utilizing checklists and updating plans, protocols, and processes as necessary. Conducts security inventories to identify all security assets., • Acts as a department liaison with law enforcement during criminal and non-criminal investigations., • Acts as an organization liaison with the local Emergency Operations Center (EOC), law enforcement agencies, emergency management organizations, Homeland Security, Fusion Center, Kansas City Terrorism Early Warning group, and other community organizations, including but not limited to police, fire and EMS departments, and military organizations., • Provides input in developing the annual department budget for operations and equipment., • Attends and participates in professional group meetings. Maintains awareness of new trends and developments in law enforcement, crime prevention, and related support services. Incorporates new developments as appropriate., • Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES • None FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY • Position has limited fiscal responsibility. May assist in collecting data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required Education and Experience • At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an associate degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field., • At least five (5) years of related work experience in law enforcement or security operations., • An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered. POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK • Will work in a normal office environment. Will sometimes be required to work and/or attend meetings or events in public and at all RideKC locations., • Monday through Thursday, 8 am until 2 pm, as agreed with the Senior Director of Security., • Occasional abnormal hours are expected and required for specific events and to reach all employees. TRAVEL • Travel within the metropolitan area is required. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS • This position requires occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards and requires medium physical effort.
