POSITION DESCRIPTION HGL manages a diverse portfolio of environmental investigation and remediation projects that roll up through client-focused programs. These programs are the focal point that sustain our business and achieve high client satisfaction. Our work with the Department of Energy (DOE) is one of our fastest growing programs with projects ongoing at Oak Ridge, Pantex, Nevada National Security Site and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. HGL also holds a nationwide small business set-aside Deactivation, Decommissioning and Removal (DD&R) contract. To expand our growth with DOE, HGL seeks a dedicated, full-time manager to lead our DOE program nationwide. This program manager will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to develop new opportunities throughout the DOE complex, leveraging ongoing work, maximizing the DD&R contract and positioning for new contract opportunities. This role will develop marketing strategies and represent HGL at key events, utilizing an established network of client and partner contacts to further HGL’s brand. The client program manager, working with other senior leaders, will also be responsible for leading and managing the company’s DOE contracts and ensuring all projects are executed in alignment with client expectations, contractual requirements, and company objectives. This role oversees project teams, provides strategic leadership, supports business development efforts within the DOE portfolio, and serves as a primary point of contact for client engagement. This position plays a critical role in mentoring and developing project managers to ensure consistent, successful project delivery, and may also serve as project manager on select projects as needed. Ideally the successful candidate will be based in Knoxville, TN; however, candidates with the appropriate skills and experience at other locations with active DOE environmental management operations will also be considered. Responsibilities/Duties WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING The person hired for this role will be responsible for: • Strategic planning and business development including selling out existing contracts and securing follow-on or new DOE contract opportunities., • Leading marketing efforts at key events such as the DOE Waste Management conference and ETEBA’s nationwide conferences., • Leveraging client and partner relationships to secure teaming agreements for HGL on key procurements throughout the DOE complex at EM and NNSA sites., • Developing and presenting to HGL executive management capture strategies for upcoming opportunities., • Working with capture teams to develop winning proposals for DOE-related opportunities, working closely with technical teams, HGL leadership, and teaming partners to submit high-quality and competitive proposals., • Ensuring projects within the program portfolio meet safety, quality, financial, and schedule targets., • Providing leadership and direction to Project Managers and working with the HGL team to project hiring needs for DOE projects., • Engaging in routine follow-up with DOE clients on project performance., • Actively engaging in risk management through identification and assessment of potential risks and challenges associated with the projects in the DOE program portfolio. Developing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize negative impacts., • Managing projects on large scale environmental investigation, remediation, and deactivation and decommissioning (D&D) projects., • Addressing and resolving project issues and challenges, including navigating complex client and team dynamics. Required Skills WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field required., • Minimum of 15 years of experience in DOE related business development, and/or managing large DOE contracts and multi-disciplinary teams, preferably in the environmental or engineering sectors., • Demonstrated network of connections in the DOE EM marketplace with clients and partner companies., • Strong leadership and people management abilities, including mentoring and coaching staff., • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with clients, team members, and executives., • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to manage complex situations and personalities., • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities., • Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture while focusing on opportunity capture details and/or project details. Preferred Skills WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required • Project Management Processional (PMP) certification and/or professional certifications are a plus., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Project for project scheduling and management. The salary range for this position ranges from $136,585 - $218,536. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
