Job Description The Garden Shop Associate assists in the running of the day-to-day operations of the 5,000 square foot garden shop. Supports the retail team, ensuring excellent customer service and generates revenue for the sale of books, unique gifts, pots, statuary, jewelry, clothing, holiday ornaments and other items. Job Responsibilities: • Provides excellent customer service ensuring a welcoming environment for all guests, visitors and volunteers in the Shop, • Executes opening and closing procedures; runs cash registers with accuracy and makes daily deposits, • Responsible for timely processing and mailing of all online customer orders, • Provides floor coverage to assist shoppers; retrieves merchandise as needed by volunteers, • Supports shop leadership in promotions, marketing strategies and executing shop events, • Monitors inventory levels; coordinating and performing regular stock checks to maintain adequate stock, • Assists with training new volunteers and seasonal staff, • Efficiently processes new product; responsible for organizing and maintaining stockrooms, • Assists in accurately performing shop inventory yearly or as required, • Supports scheduling and training of volunteers supporting the Garden Shop, • Required to have a flexible work schedule; must be available to work one weekend day every week; must be available to assist with evening coverage during special events; required to work nights during Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures, • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures, • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, • Knowledge of retail stock management and control principles and procedures, • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, • Works well in a diverse team and guest environment, • Ability and experience using and troubleshooting a POS system, • Knowledge of retail floor sales techniques, • Ability to problem solve quickly, • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, • Knowledge of retail advertising, sales promotion and/or visual merchandising techniques, • Employee development and performance management skills, • Knowledge of basic fiscal and personnel management principles Education and Experience • 1 – 2 years cashier or money handling experience in the retail industry., • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with the public or in a customer service capacity., • High School Graduate or equivalent., • Fluency in conversational Spanish preferred. Physical Demands / Working Conditions • Moderate physical activity., • Requires handling of objects up to 40 pounds.
