Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Industrial Automation Location: Office-Based Near Cheltenham Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum DOE The Role: Permanent | Full-time | Monday-Thursday 08.00 to 17.00, Friday 08.00 to 14.00 We’re working with a forward-thinking engineering business that designs and builds bespoke automation systems and special-purpose machinery. They are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of customer projects from concept through to delivery. This is a permanent, full-time role offering an excellent opportunity to work on complex automation solutions, develop innovative designs, and contribute to high-profile projects across a variety of manufacturing industries. You will manage projects end-to-end, ensuring designs are accurate, feasible, and meet client requirements. Key Responsibilities: • Design and develop new and existing components/products for automation machinery, • Conceptualise and detail new automation solutions, • Produce site layouts and Bills of Materials (BoMs) for all designs, • Manage projects from conception, design, build, and delivery to ensure client satisfaction, • Liaise with customers and suppliers to understand requirements and provide solutions, • Ensure all designs meet high-quality standards and deadlines, • Collaborate with internal teams to align designs with manufacturing processes, • Troubleshoot design issues and implement improvements, • Work autonomously while contributing effectively as part of a team About You: • Strong background in industrial automation and special-purpose machinery (bespoke machines, conveyors, complex sub-assemblies), • Proficient in 3D CAD software, particularly Autodesk Inventor and/or Fusion 360, • Knowledge of manufacturing industries and processes, • Experienced in project management and end-to-end project ownership, • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail, • Self-starter with an inquisitive mind and ability to work autonomously, • Fluent in English, articulate, and presentable for client-facing situations, • Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience (minimum 3 years as CAD Draughtsman), • Eligible to live and work in the UK If you’re a motivated, detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for industrial automation, we’d love to hear from you.
