Elevation Procurement & Supply Chain are delighted to be partnered with an international project engineering business, utilising plant & equipment to add value to key customers constructure & infrastructure projects, with the search & selection of a Purchasing Manager, to be based at their Chesterfield head office. About the Role: As Purchasing Manager, you will lead the end-to-end procurement strategy across key categories, ensuring best value, quality, and continuity of supply. You will manage and develop supplier relationships, oversee strategic sourcing initiatives, and ensure robust contract management. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you will provide commercial insight and purchasing expertise to support operational and strategic business objectives. Key Responsibilities: • Develop and execute purchasing strategies for direct materials and indirect services aligned with business objectives and budget targets., • Manage a £20m spend portfolio, ensuring optimal cost, quality, delivery, and risk mitigation across all key categories., • Lead supplier selection, negotiation, and onboarding processes, ensuring competitive terms and sustainable partnerships., • Oversee contract creation, review, and management, including renewals, performance clauses, and compliance with company policies., • Monitor supplier performance using KPIs, driving continuous improvement and resolving issues affecting quality or delivery., • Collaborate with operations, finance, engineering, and other functions to forecast demand, support new projects, and align purchasing plans., • Identify and deliver cost-saving and value-improvement initiatives through strategic sourcing, consolidation, and process optimisation., • Lead and develop the purchasing team (if applicable), setting clear objectives and ensuring consistent procurement standards and processes. Key Requirements: • Proven experience in a purchasing or procurement management role, handling multi-million-pound spend., • Strong track record in supplier relationship management, including performance management and issue resolution., • Demonstrable experience in strategic sourcing across both direct materials and indirect services., • Solid contract management experience, including negotiation, drafting, and ongoing governance., • Confident cross-functional communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels., • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make commercially sound decisions., • Proficiency with procurement systems and MS Office, particularly Excel for spend analysis and reporting., • Ability to work autonomously, prioritise competing demands, and deliver to deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Desirable Skills: • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, or industrial sectors., • Background in category management and supplier segmentation strategies., • Familiarity with lean or continuous improvement methodologies applied to procurement processes., • Experience implementing or optimising ERP/procurement platforms., • Exposure to sustainability or ESG considerations within supply chains. Qualifications: • Degree-level education in business, supply chain, procurement, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience., • Professional procurement qualification (e.g. CIPS or working towards) preferred., • Evidence of ongoing professional development in procurement, supply chain, or commercial management.
