Teacher – Primary Principal • Exercise of general professional duties, • if employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal;, • if employed by a board on terms against which the teacher is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the principal of any school., • Particular duties, • perform, in accordance with any directions reasonably given, any particular duties as may be assigned by the principal or the board to the teacher., • Planning, • Plan and prepare courses and lessons., • Teach, according to pupils’ educational needs, including setting and marking work to be carried out by pupils in and outside school., • Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils., • General, • Promote the general progress and well‑being of pupils and any class or group assigned., • Provide advice and guidance on educational, social matters and further education and career options., • Make records of and reports on pupils’ personal and social needs, except where it might compromise the teacher’s position., • Communicate and consult with pupils’ parents., • Communicate and cooperate with approved external persons or bodies, including the Board of Governors., • Participate in meetings for any of the purposes described above., • Assessment/Reporting, • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils and groups, except where it might compromise the teacher’s position., • Staff Development/Professional Development, • Participate in any staff development or performance review scheme, if required., • Review teaching methods and programmes from time to time; participate in further training and professional development., • Advise and cooperate with the Principal and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials and assessment methods., • Discipline/Health and Safety, • Maintain good order and discipline among pupils in accordance with employability authority policies, safeguarding health and safety during school activities., • Participate in meetings related to the curriculum, administration and organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements., • Public Examinations, • Assist in preparations for public examinations and assess pupils for the purposes of such examinations, recording and reporting assessments., • Participate in arrangements for pupils’ presentation and supervision during examinations., • Review and Development of Management Activities/Administration, • Contribute to the selection and professional development of other teachers, including induction of probationary teachers., • Coordinate or manage the work of other teachers; participate in the review, development and management of curriculum-related activities., • Complete administrative tasks linked to these duties, including supervising support staff and ordering materials., • Attend assemblies and register pupil attendance; supervise pupils where required., • Work Hours, • Be available for full time teaching duties on 195 days per year, excluding up to 5 days for training or meetings., • May perform duties at times and places specified by the Principal or Board., • Teachers may not be required to use middle‑day supervision unless on a separate contract., • Breaks of at least 30 minutes between 12:00 and 14:00, or 14:30 for nursery teachers., • Staff Coverage, • Supervise and teach pupils whose teacher is unavailable, subject to enrolment limits., • In primary 1 & 2 or nursery schools with enrolments over 222, additional cover may be required after the second day of absence, or immediately after a known 2‑day absence., • Qualifications / Professional Membership, • Obtain a teaching qualification acceptable for recognition in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland at the closing date for applications., • Shortlisting will be by application form., • Experience, • Minimum of 1 year paid demonstrable experience teaching Key Stage 1 or 2 with positive learning outcomes., • Experience using diverse classroom strategies to support and challenge pupils of all abilities, including those with special educational needs., • Experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning., • Experience assisting with extra‑curricular music, art or drama in a school setting., • Shortlisting by application form., • Other, • Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before commencing the post., • Complete a pre‑employment check., • Knowledge, • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum., • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection policy/practice., • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice., • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet pupils’ learning needs., • Knowledge of information technology systems such as digital classroom tools, media and mobile devices., • Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching., • Skills / Abilities, • Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils., • Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment., • Capacity to use initiative, solve problems, and remain flexible., • Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community., • Ability to work as an effective team member and motivate self and others., • Values Orientation / Identification with School Ethos, • Evidence of work practices reflecting the school’s values/ethos., • Qualifications and Experience, • Demonstrable experience of assisting with extra‑curricular music delivery in a school environment., • Hold a relevant qualification for the delivery of extra‑curricular music in a school environment., • Demonstrable experience of assisting with rehearsals and performances with a school choir., • Hold a minimum of Grade 5 pianoforte., • Shortlisting by application form.
