Payroll Assistant \n\n • Location: Plymouth, Devon\n, • Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time\n, • Salary: Competitive\n\n Reed is excited to partner with one of the UK's most successful and rapidly expanding retail businesses to recruit a Payroll Systems Assistant. This role is based at their Head Office in Plymouth and offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals with experience in payroll systems, HR systems, or data administration who are passionate about working with technology, analysing data, and improving processes. \n Day-to-day of the role: \n\n • Support the administration, optimisation, and continuous improvement of payroll and workforce management systems to ensure data accuracy, system efficiency, and excellent service delivery across the business.\n, • Work closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, and operational stakeholders to maximise the effectiveness of key systems including Zellis Payroll, UKG Workforce Management, and Microsoft reporting tools.\n, • Assist with system upgrades, testing, enhancements, and the rollout of new functionality.\n, • Monitor system integrations, performance, and data quality, identifying and resolving issues proactively.\n, • Produce, analyse, and interpret payroll and workforce reports to support business decision-making.\n, • Manage data imports, reconciliations, validations, and audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.\n, • Provide first-line systems support and guidance to payroll colleagues and business users.\n, • Support payroll projects, process improvements, and efficiency initiatives.\n, • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, GDPR requirements, internal controls, and audit standards.\n, • Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve user experience, reporting capability, and payroll accuracy.\n\n Required Skills & Qualifications: \n\n • Experience working within a payroll, HR systems, workforce management, or related systems environment.\n, • Strong understanding of payroll processes and data management principles.\n, • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data manipulation, and analysis.\n, • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.\n, • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work confidently with large data sets.\n, • Experience producing reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.\n, • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.\n, • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.\n, • Professional and confidential approach to handling sensitive information.\n\n Desirable Experience: \n\n • Experience using Zellis Payroll and/or UKG Workforce Management (Kronos).\n, • Previous experience within an in-house payroll function.\n, • Knowledge of UK payroll legislation and best practice.\n, • Experience with data imports, CSV files, interfaces, and system integrations.\n, • Involvement in payroll testing, upgrades, or implementation projects.\n, • Knowledge of SQL, reporting tools, or data extraction techniques.\n, • Experience supporting business change and continuous improvement initiatives.\n\n Benefits: \n\n • Competitive salary\n, • Pension scheme\n, • Employee discount\n, • Cycle to Work scheme\n, • Long service awards\n, • Career development opportunities within a growing national business\n\n If you're looking to combine your payroll systems knowledge with data analysis and process improvement in a growing and forward-thinking organisation, we'd love to hear from you. \n Please apply today with your CV!
