Role: Credit Controller Location: Birmingham (Central) Salary: Up to £30,000 Ideally immediately available or a short notice period Role Overview Robert Half are thrilled to be working with our client in Birmingham as they search for a Credit Controller who will work as part of a small, focused team responsible for managing the recovery of outstanding payments from tenants or occupiers. The purpose of the role is to engage with clients regarding overdue balances, progress arrears recovery, and maintain accurate records of all related actions. The position also supports the Credit Control Manager by: • Following client-specific debt recovery policies when pursuing arrears, • Monitoring and documenting tenant commitments to settle outstanding amounts, including tracking performance against agreed payment arrangements, • Collaborating with surveyors and client accountants to resolve queries relating to charges, statements, or payment histories, • Reviewing aged debtor reports and advising on appropriate recovery strategies Key Responsibilities • Maintain accurate records of tenant payment behaviour and issue reminders to those with poor payment history, • Recover arrears in line with client instructions, applying agreed methods and escalation procedures, • Keep surveyors updated on progress with arrears collection, • Obtain surveyor approval before initiating any escalation action, • Record and track all agreed repayment plans, ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained, • Monitor adherence to repayment plans and alert surveyors or accountants to any missed or late payments, • Instruct legal representatives or enforcement agents to pursue outstanding sums, where authorised, • Document all tenant communications and agreed actions relating to arrears, • Provide supporting information for monthly reports and aged debtor analyses, • Ensure tenant queries are acknowledged and actioned within 24 hours, liaising with internal teams as necessary, • Escalate any disputes or complaints to the responsible surveyor or accountant, • Reconcile tenant statements and aged debtor listings, • Supply tenants with replacement copies of invoices or supporting documentation, • Assist with allocating cash receipts during busy periods, • Support the identification and resolution of unallocated cash, • Comply with all internal procedures, controls, and regulatory requirements, • Participate in performance management processes and consistently uphold internal service standards Person Specification • Experience in credit control, rent collection, or a similar finance role within a busy office environment; relevant qualifications in credit control, debt management, or accounting are advantageous, • Highly numerate with excellent accuracy and attention to detail, • Tenacious, professional, and self-motivated, with a confident and assertive communication style, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a professional telephone manner, • Conscientious, focused, and knowledgeable about credit control procedures and data protection obligations, • Familiarity with property-related accounting systems (such as TRAMPS, Yardi, Qube, or similar) is desirable, • Able to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and prioritise tasks effectively, • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, • Understanding of accounting principles and sales ledger processes within the property sector is advantageous Interested to hear more?
