Estimator Location: Nottinghamshire Salary: £27,000 - £45,000 per annum (DOE) Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:45am - 3:30pm Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time Overview We are recruiting for an Estimator to join a well‑established precision engineering and manufacturing business based in Nottinghamshire. This role would suit an individual with a strong CNC machining background who is either already working in estimating or is looking to transition from the shop floor into an office‑based technical role. You will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive quotations across machining and fabrication projects while working closely with engineering, production and commercial teams. Key Responsibilities Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and technical specifications Prepare accurate cost estimates and detailed quotations Calculate machining times, material costs, tooling, fabrication time and subcontract processes Liaise with CNC, fabrication, quality and planning teams to validate production times Source material and subcontract pricing from suppliers Maintain and update pricing models for repeat and new work Identify cost‑saving and value‑engineering opportunities Support tender submissions and respond to customer enquiries Maintain accurate quote, margin and conversion records Provide technical input during customer meetings, audits and project reviews Ensure all quotations meet business standards for accuracy, profitability and lead time Candidate Requirements Essential: Background in precision engineering or CNC machining Proven experience as a CNC Miller Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and machining principles Confident using manual inspection equipment High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills Ability to manage workload independentlyDesirable: CNC program editing or writing experience 3‑axis or 4‑axis machining experience NVQ Level 3 or completed apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering / Machining Benefits Competitive salary dependent on experience Overtime paid at time and a half Stable, long‑term role within an established engineering business Early finish every working day Standard company benefits package Friendly working environment with on‑site and local employee perks How to Apply If you are an experienced CNC machinist looking to move into estimating, or an Estimator with strong machining knowledge, please apply with your CV or contact us for further information Should you require any support or assistance, please contact your local Gi Group office.
