Job DescriptionPrimary Job Title: Technical Lab Assistant – 3rd Shift Alternate/Related Job Titles: • Laboratory Assistant, • Specimen Processing Technician, • Position Type: Contract, • Contract Duration: 3 Months, • Start: As Soon As Possible, • Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 12:00 AM – 8:30 AM (Eastern Time), rotating SundaysJob SummaryThe Technical Lab Assistant (3rd Shift) supports laboratory operations by performing a variety of routine technical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient specimen handling and testing. Working closely with laboratory technologists and scientists, this role assists in specimen preparation, data recording, and quality control procedures within a fast-paced diagnostic laboratory environment.This is an essential position that contributes directly to the accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of laboratory testing and reporting.Key Responsibilities, • Receive, sort, and accession incoming laboratory specimens., • Perform specimen processing functions including centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, and sample verification., • Assist with routine instrument maintenance and reagent/media preparation., • Perform QA/QC checks, monitor temperature charts, and record data for compliance., • Retrieve, store, and organize specimens for testing or reference., • Prepare slides and inoculate cultures for microbiology as required., • Decontaminate and maintain work areas following safety and biohazard protocols., • Dispose of biological waste and follow all PPE and OSHA laboratory safety guidelines., • Operate laboratory computer systems and PCs for data entry and documentation., • Locate missing samples and resolve pending worklists to maintain workflow accuracy., • Change gas cylinders, complete training checklists, and maintain departmental records., • Perform manual plating of microbiology specimens as assigned.Required Experience, • No prior laboratory experience required; on-the-job training provided., • Previous experience in a medical, laboratory, or production environment preferred.Required Skills, • Specimen handling and data entry accuracy, • Ability to follow detailed laboratory procedures and safety regulations, • Strong organizational and multitasking abilitiesPreferred Skills, • Familiarity with basic laboratory or medical processes, • Knowledge of QA/QC protocols, • Basic computer and system navigation (Microsoft and LIMS software)Additional Skills, • Team-oriented communication skills, • Ability to retain and apply procedural knowledge, • Efficiency in high-volume lab operationsEducation, • High school diploma or equivalent required, • Coursework in math and science preferred, • Medical assistant or laboratory assistant training helpfulBenefits, • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans, • 401k Retirement FundAbout the ClientA leading provider of diagnostic information services, empowering healthier lives through advanced laboratory testing and data-driven health insights.
