Job Description Location: St. Louis, MO Reports to: President Status: Full-time, Exempt Work Model: Hybrid (4 days onsite) About The Genome Partnership The Genome Partnership is a not-for-profit organization based in St. Louis that advances research, promotes education, and expands commerce in genome science and technology. Since 1999, it has united many of the world’s leading researchers, innovators, and industry pioneers through the Advances in Genome Biology and Technology (AGBT) meetings. As we transition key financial functions in-house, we are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and lead core financial processes. This role combines hands-on execution with managerial ownership of financial reporting, internal controls, audit coordination, and budgeting. The Accounting Manager will serve as a trusted partner to executive leadership, helping build scalable systems that support the organization’s mission and growth. Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations (AP, AR, Payroll) • Own the full-cycle accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance, • Manage weekly AP payment runs via Bill.com in alignment with cash flow forecasts and leadership priorities, • Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and oversee annual 1099 preparation, • Oversee expense report processing and reimbursements to ensure accuracy and a positive stakeholder experience, • Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting to support organizational planning, • Prepare quarterly financial reports, variance analyses, and dashboards for leadership and the Board, • Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and provide scenario analysis to support decision-making, • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, • Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, • Serve as the primary accounting liaison for the annual external audit, • Coordinate preparation of audit schedules, respond to auditor inquiries, and support timely completion, • Support external reporting requirements, including audited financial statements, IRS Form 990, and state filings, • Monitor cash balances, bank activity, and short-term investments, • Align payment timing with liquidity needs and reserve targets, • Support the accounting and payment of employee benefit plans, including reconciliation of benefits invoices, payroll deductions, and employer contributions, • Assist with the accounting, payment, and tracking of business insurance premiums (e.g., health benefits, general liability, D&O, cyber, workers’ compensation), • Provide accounting support to affiliated organizations under contracted-services agreements, as approved, • Ensure strict separation of financial records, systems, and internal controls in accordance with governance and audit standards, • Perform other accounting-related duties and cross-functional financial support as needed to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and operational continuity in a small organization Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, • Demonstrated experience leading full-cycle accounting, close processes, and audits, • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and nonprofit or association accounting, • Hands-on experience with payroll processing (ADP preferred), • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and AP/AR platforms (Bill.com preferred), • Experience preparing board-facing financial reports and analyses, • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through, • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams, • Clear, professional communication skills and a service-oriented mindset Compensation & Benefits Base Salary Range: $85,000–$95,000, commensurate with experience This range reflects an Accounting Manager role with ownership of full-cycle accounting, budgeting and forecasting, audit coordination, board reporting, and internal controls in a small, mission-driven organization.
