Job Description Come join the team as Bartending/Mixology Instructors for our newest program at the HTA! The Hospitality Training Academy (HTA) is a 501(c)(3) Taft-Hartley/labor-management partnership between UNITE HERE Local 11 and its contributing employers. UNITE HERE Local 11 represents more than 30,000 members working at over 170 hospitality and food service employers in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties and the state of Arizona. Our mission is to build a strong workforce for the hospitality industry and provide well-trained workers to hospitality and food service employees throughout Southern California and Arizona. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS of WORK This is a temporary position; hours of work and days vary; a flexible work schedule is required. Travel is expected for this position to HTA Headquarters in Los Angeles and the training bar location which is also in DTLA. The Bartending /Mixology Instructor is accountable for providing rigorous training for apprentices looking to be professional bartenders, following the style and class plans previously developed by the program and contributing to further curriculum development as the program grows. PRIMARY FUNCTION: • Conducts training in bartending and mixology, including product knowledge, safe alcohol service, sanitation and safety, building customer relations, bar management basics, mixing and serving drinks, use of point of sales systems, bar security, etc., • Engage trainees with practical information and instruction that improves performance and customer satisfaction while modeling excellent, professional work ethics, treating all students and colleagues with care and respect, teaching and guiding students to deliver a great product., • Tests trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training., • Reports on progress of trainees during training periods., • Maintains sign-in sheets, trainee attendance, grading, and progress records for auditing purposes., • Documented expertise in bartending and mixology, all types of fine spirits, beer and wine, • 5 years of successful high-end bartending experience with extensive experience creating from-scratch mixers, shrubs, bitters, clear-ice production, etc., • Certified to serve alcohol in the State of California, • 3 – 5 years bar and inventory management experience and expertise and the ability to teach it to others, • Engaging presentation skills with the ability to patiently communicate verbally, and work cooperatively with assistants, students, support staff, employer partners, and interested members of the community, • Strong communication, writing and editing skills, • Able to easily move around the work area in tight spaces, coaching and guiding assistants and students, • Able to be on your feet for up to 6 hours at a time while teaching class, • Must have a keen sense of taste and smell, to inspect beverage quality and flavor, and with the tongue, nose and mouth, be able to distinguish subtle differences in taste, flavors, and/or scents to balance beverages being created and presented., • Able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull to demonstrate bartending techniques, to gather and put away equipment, and supplies, • Able to use hands in all manners customarily used in a commercial bar, to grab, hold, grasp, turn, lift, or all other customary hand motions or usage, in order to chop, slice, slice, stir, forcefully shake, and/or to demonstrate any and all other bartending techniques, • Ability to operate a computer, keyboards, and mouse as needed by the program, • Able to keep regular and predictable attendance, • Able to lift and/or move cases of bottled spirits, food, merchandise, and/or bartending equipment weighing up to 50 LBS, including moving and placing these objects below the waist and above the head, • Able and willing to handle and pour wine, beer, and liquor, used in demonstrating bartending techniques, • Experience training or facilitating small and large group classes or meetings, • Prior work in coaching and counseling students, • Knowledge of adult learning techniques, • Prior experience as a bartender in fine hotels or restaurants., • Extensive, detailed knowledge of all types of top-shelf spiritsCompany DescriptionJoin us in changing peoples' lives!
