Job Description FLSA: Non-Exempt (Hourly) REVISED: 12/30/25 REPORTS TO: Event Manager REVIEWED: 12/30/25 SUPERVISES: None (monitors team members and volunteers, when assigned) Position Summary: The PetSmart Transport Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing the safe, humane, and efficient transport of animals between The Animal Foundation and PetSmart adoption center locations, as required under grant funding. This role ensures the timely movement of animals, adherence to animal welfare and biosecurity standards, and proper documentation of all transport activity. This position is strictly dedicated to PetSmart transport and adoptions only and does not perform adoption counseling or in-shelter animal care unrelated to PetSmart adoptions. Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Safely transport animals (primarily cats and kittens; occasional dogs or small animals as PetSmart allows) between The Animal Foundation and PetSmart adoption partner stores. * Load and unload animals using approved handling techniques, ensuring carriers are secure and animals are comfortable and safe during transit. * Monitor animals during transport for signs of illness, stress, or injury and immediately report concerns to Offsite Adoptions leadership. * Collaborates with the Event Manager and the Community Adoption Coordinator to determine PetSmart's annual off-site adoption goals, objectives, and strategy. * Ensure transport vehicle is cleaned and disinfected before and after each trip, following all sanitation and biosecurity protocols. * Verify that animals scheduled for transport have the necessary documentation, ID bands, and completed medical/behavioral clearances as communicated by Offsite Adoptions staff. * Maintain accurate transport logs, including departure/arrival times, number and identity of animals transported, and any incidents encountered. * Communicate effectively with PetSmart staff regarding drop-offs, pick-ups, and any animal-related updates. * Support grant reporting requirements by properly recording timely and accurate transport data. * Represent The Animal Foundation professionally while working with store employees, volunteers, and members of the public. * Counsels potential PetSmart adopters through adoptions, educates them on proper animal care as needed, informs them of medical treatment received or needed for the chosen pet(s), processes adoptions in the Chameleon system, maintains adoption records and paperwork, collects adoption fees, issues receipts, and otherwise completes the adoption process. * Conducts research regarding available PetSmart adoption locations, makes site visits, builds local relationships, and finds resources to help make decisions about off-site adoption event opportunities. Qualifications * Must be at least 21 years old with a valid Nevada driver’s license and an insurable driving record. * Experience handling animals (shelter, veterinary, rescue, or boarding facility preferred). Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs, including carriers with animals. * Comfortable handling animals with a variety of temperaments and needs. * Strong attention to detail, punctuality, and ability to work independently. * Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain clear communication across departments. * Commitment to humane animal care and The Animal Foundation’s mission. Education and Experience Requirements: * High School Diploma or Equivalent License & Certification Requirements: For driving, the incumbent must be at least 21 years of age and possess and maintain a valid Class C Nevada Driver's License. For this position, the incumbent must have and maintain a clean driving record. The Animal Foundation will run and review a three-year driver history report for the selected applicant. Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of: * Principles and practices of customer service. * Standard office administrative practices and procedures, including record-keeping systems and the operation of office equipment, computers, and associated software. * Techniques for dealing effectively with the public in person, over the phone, and by email. * Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in: * Gathering and compiling information; preparing accurate reports and summaries. * Maintaining timely and complete records of activities and results. * Working confidently with the public and a wide variety of internal departments. * Building and maintaining strong, effective working relationships with community organizations, agencies, and individuals. * Use of business software, including Microsoft Office, and associated computer hardware. * Communicating effectively in oral and written forms, including writing, proofreading, and public speaking. * Working without close supervision in external work situations. * Managing details in an organized and consistent manner, * Managing multiple projects concurrently. * Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. * Communicating, relating, and interacting with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, in person, over the telephone, and by email, sometimes where relations may be confrontational or strained. Working Conditions and Physical Effort: Physical ability and mobility to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Strength to lift and/or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently, 75 pounds occasionally. Vision to read printed materials. Stamina to sit and work with a computer for an extended period of time. Capability to drive for extended periods. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
