Job Description Design Systems Builders (DSB), the self-performance, pre-engineered metal building division of T.W. Frierson Contractor, is seeking a skilled Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) & Insulated Metal Panel (IMP) Estimator with 3-5 years of direct estimating experience in pre-engineered metal buildings, metal wall/roof systems, and insulated metal panel assemblies. to join our collaborative and innovative team. At DSB, we partner with General Contractors, Developers, and End Users to furnish and erect pre-engineered and conventional metal buildings and related steel components. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of PEMB structural systems, cladding interfaces, thermal envelope detailing, and manufacturer-specific IMP systems. This role requires the ability to independently analyze construction documents, perform accurate quantity takeoffs, solicit vendor pricing, and develop comprehensive cost estimates for commercial and industrial projects. What You'll Do Estimating & Pre-Construction • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for PEMB structural systems, secondary framing, roof systems, wall systems, trims, and accessories., • Prepare accurate cost estimates for insulated metal panel systems, including wall, roof, corner, parapet, and transition conditions., • Review architectural and structural drawings and specifications to identify scope requirements and potential risk exposures., • Analyze manufacturer shop drawings and technical data for constructability and cost impact., • Solicit, level, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids., • Develop conceptual, schematic, and GMP-level estimates as required., • Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and value engineering opportunities., • Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and turnover meetings with operations teams. Technical Expertise • Strong knowledge of PEMB framing systems (rigid frames, secondary framing, bracing systems)., • Expertise in IMP wall and roof systems (single-skin vs. composite, concealed fastener systems, joint detailing)., • Understanding of thermal performance requirements (R-values, air/vapor barriers, dew point considerations)., • Knowledge of attachment methods, clips, fasteners, structural interfaces, and expansion/contraction detailing., • Ability to interpret wind load, snow load, and seismic design criteria affecting PEMB and IMP systems., • Familiarity with manufacturer-specific systems such as Kingspan, Metl-Span, CENTRIA, Nucor, Butler, and Varco Pruden. Cost Control & Risk Management • Identify long-lead materials and supply chain considerations., • Develop material and labor production rates specific to PEMB erection and IMP installation., • Assist in budget tracking and cost comparisons during design development., • Maintain historical cost data for future benchmarking. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications: • 3-5 years of direct estimating experience in pre-engineered metal building and/or metal building envelope systems., • Demonstrated expertise in insulated metal panel systems., • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and structural construction documents., • Proficiency in takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, OST, Sage, Timberline, or similar)., • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and cost analysis tools., • Strong understanding of building codes and energy compliance requirements related to metal building envelopes., • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines concurrently. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience working with PEMB manufacturers or metal building specialty contractors., • Field experience with PEMB erection or IMP installation., • Familiarity with BIM coordination and 3D modeling environments., • Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
