Job Description Position Summary: A Maintenance Engineer is responsible for providing maintenance services as needed and/or assigned; assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials and vehicles are maintained in good working order and are available at job sites when needed. Physical Demands: The Maintenance Engineer position requires the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, fine motor manipulations, talk, hear and complete repetitive motions. The Maintenance Engineer position can entail standing for significant periods of time. The Maintenance Engineer requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The position involves working in indoor and outdoor environments. The Maintenance Engineer position involves outdoor work in various weather conditions, use of ladders, use of tools, including power tools, and frequent driving. Schedule: The Maintenance Engineer works primarily first shift (7:30AM-4:00PM). This is a full-time position that requires a staff member to work a minimum of 80 hours per pay two-week period. Including an ON-CALL rotation. Essential Requirements: • Possess high school diploma or equivalent., • Possess skill-based competencies including: operating equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools, etc.; carpentry skills; painting skills; basic electrical skills; basic plumbing skills; skills necessary to install and remove major appliances; skills necessary to diagnose cause of problems with major appliances; adhering to safety practices; handling hazardous materials; basic math skills related to carpentry and measurements; and planning and managing projects., • Must be at least 21 years old., • Must possess the necessary sensory abilities in order that all of the job responsibilities described in this success profile are adequately fulfilled., • Must be able to walk up and down stairs., • Demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills., • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must be eligible to become an authorized driver with Goldie Floberg., • Must successfully pass all required background checks., • Must possess/demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at once independently., • Ability to work effectively as part of a team., • Must exhibit regular and predictable attendance. DCFS Rule 403: Licensing Standards for Group Homes. • Addresses maintenance concerns reported via service requests in a competent and prompt manner., • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations using pre-established forms., • Performs minor carpentry maintenance to include but not be limited to making adaptations related to the needs of non ambulatory and semi-ambulatory individuals and basic home repairs., • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools., • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.) to provide operable and efficient plumbing capabilities to all sites., • Assists in performing scheduled and "as needed" inspection and preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to maintain operability of the tools and equipment., • Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures and equipment to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion, repair damaged walls and maintain a safe, comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g. sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.)., • Installs, removes and conducts maintenance and repairs of household appliances., • Assembles and moves office equipment to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks., • Maintains Center vehicles in safe operating condition via regular inspection and maintenance as well as securing approval for repairs as needed., • Maintains Center tools and equipment in safe operating order., • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. Each Maintenance Team Member will participate in an on-call rotation to ensure appropriate after hours coverage., • Gains job specific expertise through various sources (e.g. on-the-job training, trade publications, vendor publications and manuals, etc.) to become proficient in the identified primary field., • Serve as a job coach to Maintenance Engineering Assistants, providing supervision and direct teaching to help them master the responsibilities described in their success profile., • Anything else you can think of to make our mission and vision a reality for our clients. This portion of the success profile describes specific duties that must be completed on a regular basis and in a specific manner and/or within specific time frames. • Complete inspections that include:, • Take and record water temperatures for each site once a month. Address deviations from required temperatures immediately., • Check fire extinguishers monthly. Have recharged or replaced as needed., • Check emergency and exit lights at Center headquarters monthly. Address problems as noted., • Check flashlights and lanterns and replace batteries as needed., • Check smoke detectors at headquarters and all other cites at the established frequency and address problems immediately., • Complete vehicle inspections monthly for all vehicles.
