Job DescriptionPosition SummaryHamilton-Madison House's Early Childhood Services is seeking a full time Pre-K Head Teacher in our Early Childhood Program which serves children between the ages of 3-5 years old. We are seeking a warm, responsible, dedicated teacher, sensitive to the needs of young children and their families and able to work well with others. The Head Teacher sets the tone for the class, creating and implementing a developmentally-appropriate curriculum that meets the needs and interests of a given group of children. The Head Teacher also ensures that all paperwork is completed in a thorough and timely manner and that all health and safety regulations are observed. This position reports to the Education Director. Job Description We are looking for a part-time Experienced ESL/ Civics Teacher who is a Committed , experienced, and reliable individual. The teacher should have at least 2 years of experience in teaching adults and should have zoom classroom management skills as well as in-person classroom management techniques. The online classes are taught in the morning from 10 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the in-person class is taught in Astoria, NY from10 am to 1:30 pm on Mondays Our students are adults who vary in age from 18 to 70 years old. About the Role The Passage of Hope Program provides transitional residential care and other supportive services to Unaccompanied Children (UC) who are under legal custody of the Federal Government. Working in collaboration with the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), our program provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth in our Basic Shelter and Transitional and Long-Term Foster Care programs located at our licensed residential facilities and foster homes throughout New York City and Westchester County. While in our care we search, assess, and provide connections with family members and/or other potential sponsors in the United States, so they can move forward with their lives and thrive. In all programs, we provide therapeutic and educational services and other support that youth need to achieve success through an array of strength-based and targeted interventions. The Teacher will create, review, and implement the academic curriculum in accordance with the NYS State Education guidelines for ages 0 to 17. What You’ll Do • Will develop and implement all lesson plans and curriculum for all assigned youth in the program. Will ensure that the lesson plans meet the developmental needs of the youth in the program, are in their native language, and provide opportunities for the youth to learn English, Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Physical Education, Social Studies, and Acculturation., • Will work with the Office of Refugee Resettlement and other governing bodies to ensure that the program meets ORR standards as they relate to the educational needs of the youth supported by the program. • Will guide and work with the Teacher Assistant and the Youth Care Workers to ensure that they are able to help facilitate the curriculum in each of the classrooms., • Will ensure that youth are provided with all specialized, differentiated, and individualized educational and tutorial services in collaboration with supervisors and other program departments., • Will create and facilitate educational activities in the community as well as hands-on projects that will enhance the lesson plans provided to the UC youth., • Will maintain inventory of all education supplies and ensure that education program is fully equipped to meet the needs of the youth supported by the program., • Will facilitate assessments for minors within 72 hours of arrival and every 90 days thereafter. • Will participate and assist in the implementation of ongoing committees, professional development opportunities, and trainings to enhance educational practices and meet agency compliance needs.
