What you'll do: Exercise professional judgement to prepare a wide range of complex federal and state tax returns, including individual, fiduciary, estate, and charitable organizations. Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, trustees, and portfolio managers to provide clear insight into their specific tax situations. Perform ongoing tax planning initiatives and in-depth research projects to support compliance and decision-making. Ability to manage responsibilities and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision. Responsibilities • Prepare annual federal and state fiduciary, 1099, charitable, individual, gift, and estate tax returns (estate tax returns experience is a plus, not a requirement)., • Review annual tax questionnaires from clients and use the information to prepare individual returns. Communicate with clients, tax authorities, trust administrators, and lawyers to administer appropriate tax information for clients., • Analyze tax records for exchanges, mergers, and amortization of bonds., • Utilize OneSource trust tax software throughout the year to manage assigned accounts, including reviewing and re-coding of tax transactions., • Assist other Tax Specialists with routine problems and questions., • Provide backup to Estate Settlement Department in the administration of estates and trusts, including the closing of accounts and income and principal allocation., • Maintain proficiency in related tax applications such as CCH ProSystem FX, OneSource Trust Tax, and Thomson Reuters Checkpoint., • Prepare quarterly federal and state fiduciary and individual estimated tax payments., • Prepare United States Estate (and Generation-Skipping Transfer) Tax Returns (Form 706), including state return when required., • Perform competent tax research as necessary., • Maintain current tax knowledge as tax laws change., • Ability to properly organize and create tax work papers that support income/deductions and tax positions taken on tax returns., • Assume additional responsibilities, including reviewing tax returns prepared by other Tax Specialists, assisting colleagues, and contributing to a variety of department projects. About you: You have 7–10+ years of experience with Trust returns, Partnerships, Estates (706), as well as 1040 and 1041. An Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, or holder of a Master in Taxation or advanced degree in Finance or Accounting is strongly preferred. Experience from a boutique Trust Company, Wealth Management Firm, or CPA firm is a plus. Knowledge & Skill Set: Excellent organizational skills, strong client service/ client facing skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Shows strong judgment and dedication by asking thoughtful follow-up questions of clients and colleagues during tax return reviews and/or whenever a situation requires clarification. Maintains a high level of fluency in tax software applications. Proficiency with CCH ProSystem FX and OneSource Trust Tax software application systems is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and approach. Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel). Education & Experience: A college degree (BA/BS) is required. A Master in Taxation or an advanced degree in finance or accounting is preferred. Minimum 7–10 years of professional experience in the preparation of fiduciary, individual, gift returns, with estate tax returns experience is a plus.
