What We Do Here at HLE: Over almost 30 years, we have worked in the public works sector. More precisely in highway work. Our area of concentration includes sign lighting, freeway lighting, street lighting, traffic signals, ramp metering systems. Any electrical components that are related to that scope of work fall under our specialty. Our projects physical footprint spans from our Southern California offices throughout California to its Northern Border. The Role Job Title: Fleet Assistant Department: Division of Construction Classification: Non-Exempt Reporting to: Resource Manager This role will report to the Yard in Corona, CA. Role Purpose: The Fleet & Yard Operations Assistant supports Mendoza Companies equipment and fleet readiness across all job sites. This is a hands-on, field-based role that inspects, cleans, transports, and maintains company vehicles and equipment to ensure daily operational reliability. They perform minor body and electrical repairs, maintain accurate records in Tenna and Vista, and coordinate service logistics under the Resource Managers supervision. This position demands high energy, physical stamina, and pride in craftsmanshipits performed outdoors in varying weather, with frequent yard and field exposure. Accountability Roles: Fleet Readiness & Daily Inspection • Perform daily inspections of all company vehicles and light/heavy equipment following checklists for safety, cleanliness, and performance. Ensure that drivers conduct their daily inspections., • Report and document any issues in Tenna and communicate immediately to the Resource Manager., • Track mileage, hours, and service schedules across the entire fleet., • Coordinate vendor or in-house service visits; transport units as directed., • Verify completion of service work, ensuring documentation and cost receipts are uploaded correctly., • Perform light body, paint-touch-up, or electrical tasks such as replacing lights, reflectors, fuses, or small panels., • Maintain the professional appearance of all company vehicles and equipment., • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe yard environmenttools stored, materials segregated, waste disposed properly., • Prepare equipment for dispatch, load/unload safely, and verify condition upon return., • Deliver, retrieve, or relocate vehicles and small equipment between job sites as required., • Assist crews with loading/unloading at field locations., • Adhere to all DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards., • Use required PPE at all times and participate in weekly safety meetings., • Maintain accurate Tenna entries, service tickets, and inspection logs., • Assist with monthly inventory counts and quarterly yard audits., • Communicate needs for parts, materials, or vendor services proactively. CoreResponsibilities: • Complete and record daily vehicle and equipment inspections before use., • Support scheduling and execution of preventive maintenance tasks., • Conduct or coordinate light body/electrical repairs (no major mechanical work)., • Maintain organization and cleanliness of yard, warehouse, and storage areas., • Manage fuel, fluids, and consumable inventories; restock as required., • Ensure all vehicles and equipment are properly tagged, registered, and identifiable in systems., • Assist with vendor pickups, deliveries, and logistics between job sites., • Report accidents, damages, or losses immediately with proper documentation., • Collaborate with the Resource Manager on monthly readiness audits and performance reporting., • Support environmental compliance by disposing of waste oils, filters, and materials per SOP., • Uphold company appearance standardsclean fleet, organized yard, professional representation. Education and Experience: • High school diploma or equivalent required., • Minimum 1 year of experience in a fleet coordination or fleet management role., • Experience with maintenance tracking, equipment assignments, and documentation systems., • Experience handling customer/driver communication and resolving equipment related issues., • Strong background in organizing, prioritizing, and maintaining accurate records., • Valid drivers license with clean driving record. Physical Requirements: • Work is primarily outdoors and exposes the employee to varying weather conditions, as well as working in confined spaces that require crawling or maneuvering in small areas., • The employee may need to stand/kneel for long periods while working on installations or repairs., • Many tasks require climbing ladders or scaffolding to reach high areas for installation or repairs., • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently stretching, reaching, extending arms to use tools or perform tasks in uncomfortable positions., • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times., • Employee must be aware of and use personal protective equipment (PPE)., • The physical nature of the job can be demanding and requires good physical fitness, stamina, and the ability to handle various physical tasks safely.
