Job DescriptionJob Title: MIG Welder Job Description This role focuses on MIG welding mild steel components in a fabrication and production environment using .035 hard wire. You work with thin-gauge material from 1/8" up to 1/2" thick, with occasional projects up to 1" thick. You read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols, set up and adjust your own welding machine, and perform clean, precise welds that meet quality and safety standards. Responsibilities • Perform MIG welding using .035 hard wire on mild steel parts ranging from 1/8" to 1/2" thick, with occasional work on material up to 1" thick., • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, layouts, and welding procedures to determine weld locations, dimensions, and specifications., • Identify and correctly apply weld symbols from blueprints to ensure proper joint preparation and weld quality., • Set up and adjust your own welding machine from zero, including selecting appropriate amperage and voltage for the material and weld type., • Fit up your own parts using fixtures, ensuring accurate alignment and proper joint configuration before welding., • Produce welds that are clean, smooth, and free of sharp edges, adhering to quality and cosmetic standards., • Follow established welding procedures and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) to maintain consistency and structural integrity., • Use measurement tools, including a tape measure, to verify dimensions and confirm parts meet required tolerances., • Work from fabrication layouts and dimensions to assemble and weld components for applications in transportation, military, construction, and oil and gas industries., • Maintain a safe and organized work area, following all safety guidelines in the weld and paint shop., • Collaborate with team members in a high-volume fabrication environment to meet production goals and deadlines.Essential Skills, • At least 1 year of welding experience in a manufacturing setting., • Proficiency in MIG welding (GMAW) using .035 hard wire on mild steel., • Ability to read and understand blueprints, including weld symbols and dimensions., • Ability to set up and adjust a welding machine independently, including amperage and voltage settings., • Competence in fitting up parts using fixtures prior to welding., • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for layout and verification of dimensions., • Understanding of GMAW welding processes, procedures, and welding symbols., • Ability to follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and shop procedures., • Capability to produce clean, smooth welds without sharp edges or defects.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience in a fabrication shop environment in addition to production or structural welding., • Familiarity with FCAW and other GMAW-related processes., • Experience working with various wire sizes such as .030 and .045., • Background in stainless welding or TIG welding is beneficial., • Ability to interpret schematics, layouts, and detailed fabrication drawings., • Strong attention to detail and quality in both fit-up and finished welds.Why Work Here? A shift differential is available for second shift when hired on full-time. Work Environment You work in a busy weld and paint shop that employs around 120 people, including approximately 80 welders. The facility includes a paint booth and multiple weld stations, supporting projects for railroad and transportation, military, construction, and oil and gas industries. You operate standard welding equipment and fixtures, setting up your own machine and working at dedicated welding stations in a production-oriented fabrication environment. A second shift is available with a shift differential for full-time employees. The environment is industrial and shop-based, with appropriate protective gear and work attire expected for welding and fabrication activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
