Job Description Job Title: Test Technician Job Description The Test Technician sets up and operates test apparatus, performs electrical and mechanical testing, and supports test development activities for advanced medical devices used in neuromodulation and pelvic health therapies. This role assembles and calibrates equipment, executes test procedures, troubleshoots issues with test systems and fixtures, and contributes to continuous improvement in a collaborative laboratory environment. Responsibilities • Set up test apparatus and conduct tests on production assemblies and units by following established methods, procedures, standards, and sequences., • Lay out and assemble units and fixtures for production and test equipment according to engineering designs, drawings, and specifications., • Adjust, calibrate, and verify systems, fixtures, and test equipment as needed to ensure accurate and reliable test results., • Modify equipment by adding, removing, or altering components based on predetermined diagrams, sketches, and work instructions., • Identify and correct malfunctions by making appropriate adjustments or replacing parts and components as directed., • Use hand tools, small power tools, and various measuring and testing devices to perform daily job duties safely and accurately., • Monitor and verify product and process quality in accordance with statistical process control or other quality control procedures., • Provide technical support in areas such as production operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement, and product development., • Interpret and use schematics, diagrams, written instructions, and verbal descriptions to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic and mechanical components, equipment, and systems., • Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data using established formulas and procedures, and perform detailed mathematical calculations as required., • Perform tests, interpret test data, and prepare clear and accurate reports documenting methods, results, and observations., • Support testing and therapy delivery activities, including test development, test execution, and work related to transporting therapy to the device., • Participate in developing, building, and dry-running test fixtures, and provide feedback to improve fixture design and usability., • Perform calibrations and ensure test equipment remains within specified tolerances., • Assist with supplies management, including identifying needs and supporting purchasing of lab materials and components., • Conduct heavy electrical and mechanical testing, with emphasis on mechanical systems and components., • Perform soldering tasks as needed for assembly, repair, or modification of test fixtures and devices., • Repair and troubleshoot test equipment and laboratory tools, ensuring minimal downtime and reliable operation., • Execute all product testing using specialized lab equipment and troubleshoot equipment issues when problems arise., • Collaborate closely with engineers and project leads, receiving daily work instructions and providing feedback on test progress and issues., • Support multiple concurrent projects by prioritizing tasks, adapting to changing requirements, and managing workload effectively., • Maintain accurate documentation of tests, configurations, results, and changes in accordance with laboratory and quality procedures., • Communicate clearly with internal team members to obtain and provide technical information, including explaining test setups, results, and issues., • Highlight areas of concern or problems in the job area and suggest improvements to optimize work processes., • Provide guidance and assistance to new or entry-level technicians as needed, sharing best practices and supporting their development., • Handle very small devices and leads with care, using fine motor skills to assemble, connect, and test components used in neuromodulation and pelvic health therapies. Essential Skills • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a technical, testing, or laboratory role, or equivalent experience obtained through prior work or vocational/technical education., • Basic job knowledge of systems, techniques, and procedures related to test setup, execution, and troubleshooting., • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with mechanical and electrical equipment and test systems., • Mechanical aptitude and experience, with a strong mechanical knowledge preferred for test setup and execution., • Experience using test equipment and tools commonly used by test technicians., • Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation., • Experience with prototyping and working alongside engineering teams., • Soldering skills for assembly, repair, or modification of test fixtures and devices., • Experience working in a laboratory setting, including familiarity with lab equipment, processes, and safety practices., • Ability to perform calibrations and follow established calibration procedures., • Competence in repairing or troubleshooting laboratory and test equipment., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality work., • Critical thinking skills and the ability to diagnose issues and identify root causes., • Self-starter mindset with the ability to work with moderate supervision and minimal hand holding., • Ability to build on previous learning and apply knowledge to new tasks and projects., • Adaptability and flexibility to support multiple projects and changing priorities., • Effective multitasking skills to handle several tasks or projects simultaneously., • Strong communication skills to work effectively with engineers, project leads, and other technicians., • Good documentation practices and ability to maintain clear and accurate records., • Comfort using computers for data entry, documentation, and basic calculations., • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-based environment., • Fine motor skills to handle very small devices, leads, and components used in neuromodulation and pelvic health applications. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Vocational or technical education or certification in a related field is beneficial and may complement prior work experience., • Two-year technical education is preferred; four-year degrees are also welcome, especially for candidates interested in a long-term technician career path., • Early-career technicians who are motivated to grow in a hands-on technical role are encouraged to apply., • Candidates without a formal degree may be considered if their practical knowledge and experience align with the role., • Experience supporting testing, therapy delivery, and test development activities in a medical device or similar environment is an advantage., • Experience participating in fixture development, including building and dry-running new fixtures, is a plus., • Familiarity with equipment such as Instron, Bose ElectroForce, or similar systems is helpful, though training is available., • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and suggest enhancements to workflows or fixtures., • Interest in mechanical or electrical hobbies, such as working on vehicles or performing mechanical repairs, can indicate strong hands-on aptitude., • Comfort working in a project-based environment where assignments and priorities may evolve over time. Work Environment The role is based fully onsite in a laboratory environment that supports neuromodulation and pelvic health research and development. The team provides core laboratory services to multiple R&D groups and supports different therapies, including overactive bladder solutions and neuromodulation devices for brain stimulation and targeted drug delivery to the spine. The lab uses specialized test equipment, including electrical and mechanical test systems, fixtures, and tools such as Instron and Bose ElectroForce systems (with training available). Technicians work closely with a small group of approximately four lab technicians and a broader team of around ten colleagues, including engineers and project leads who provide daily work instructions. The environment emphasizes collaboration, technical problem-solving, and continuous improvement. Work hours follow a flexible schedule with core hours typically between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and some team members working extended days such as 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., depending on project needs. The work involves handling very small devices and leads, requiring careful, precise manual work and fine motor skills. The setting is project-based, with opportunities to support multiple therapies and projects over time, and offers a hands-on, growth-oriented environment for technicians who enjoy working with complex equipment and advanced medical technologies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Fridley, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $31.00/hr.
