Job Description SouthLaw, P.C., a nationally recognized leader in the mortgage banking and creditor’s rights industry, seeks an energetic, highly motivated and results-oriented Collections Paralegal in the Firm’s Overland Park, KS office. We are looking for a candidate who has excellent organization, communication and attention to detail skills, ability to work independently and proactively, as well as an ability to prioritize. The Firm specializes in foreclosure, bankruptcy, evictions, real estate collections and related civil litigation. Experience in this area is welcome but not required as we will train on the job. Benefits • 401k with Matching Up To 3%, Over a 3 Year Vesting Period, • Medical, • Dental - 100% Base Rate Paid by the Firm, • Vision - 100% Base Rate Paid by the Firm, • Life Insurance, • Long- and Short-Term Disability, • PTO Job Purpose The Collections Paralegal is responsible for preparing and filing key legal documents required for the Pre and Post Judgment process, and monitoring and maintenance of the ongoing Judgement process. This person will be required to use analytical and critical thinking skills when completing work. S/He will work effectively with a variety of Firm members and clients. Duties and Responsibilities Document Preparation: • Prepare legal documents such as demand letters, Complaints, Motions, and settlement agreements., • Retrieve, review and analyze documents provided by the client to ensure their accuracy in order to prepare the legal documents. Documents to be reviewed may include detailed client screen prints, contract documents, or account statements., • Research for missing information and documents, and request from client, if needed., • File legal documents with the court using the appropriate method for filing County. ., • Maintain calendar of pending hearing dates, times, and locations., • Prepare Attorney for hearings, receive hearing results from Attorney and Court, and communicate results to the client., • Retrieve, review, and analyze all incoming mail received through the physical mail or through the Court’s Electronic Case Filing system. Make Attorneys and/or clients aware of any situation(s) that may require attention., • Record all forms of communication from and to the Client by updating the Firm’s internal case-management system, CaseMax., • Image and label documents necessary for document preparation to the Firm’s image center., • Communicate effectively with the Attorney, Client, and docket clerk to resolve issues as they arise., • Serve as backup to fellow employees. Qualifications • High School Diploma or equivalent, • 1 plus years of applicable legal experience required, • Experience in Collections and Creditor Rights helpful but not required, • Intermediate knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs, • Strong data entry and word processing skills, • Eligible to work in the United States Working Conditions This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical Requirements The ability to work in an office environment, in front of a computer, while drafting documents, responding to emails, managing calendars and answering phones.
