Job Description Job Title: Machinist / CNC Operator - 3rd Shift Job Description This role focuses on the precise and timely production of metallic machined parts using CNC mills and CNC routers, following detailed shop travelers and customer specifications. You will set up, operate, and maintain CNC equipment, ensure error-free processing of each order, and complete all related paperwork and computer data entries. The position requires hands-on work in a metal fabrication environment using Fanuc and Haas controls on multi-axis machines, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities • Operate, set up, load, unload, and maintain CNC routers and CNC mills to produce metallic parts according to order specifications and shop travelers., • Carry out the full production process, including receiving orders from the Production Planner, allocating and pulling material, loading material into the machine, and running jobs efficiently and accurately., • Inspect products during and after machining to verify that dimensions, tolerances, and finishes meet customer and internal specifications., • Clean, label, and stage finished parts in an organized manner, ensuring all components are properly identified and ready for the next process or shipment., • Offload scrap or stock and return any unused materials as needed, maintaining accurate material flow and minimizing waste., • Process each job through the system by completing required paperwork and computer data entries, ensuring accurate and timely documentation., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift, including regular cleaning of machines, tools, and surrounding workspaces., • Regularly clean and perform basic maintenance on CNC equipment and related machinery to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime., • Program and troubleshoot CNC router functions and adjust machine settings as needed to optimize performance and product quality., • Use Fanuc and Haas controls on 3-axis (and potentially 4- and 5-axis) machines to run production jobs, perform setups, and make necessary offsets and adjustments., • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining operations, sequence of operations, and tooling requirements., • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with specifications., • Apply good organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet production schedules., • Practice a willingness to learn production and distribution methodologies, including new processes, tools, and equipment., • Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, quality standards, and procedures, including safe operation of machinery and proper handling of materials., • Maintain high standards of quality by verifying that all products meet customer requirements and internal quality criteria., • Communicate effectively with supervisors, planners, and team members regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities., • Cross-train other team members as assigned, sharing knowledge and helping build a flexible, multi-skilled workforce., • Work independently on assigned tasks while also accepting direction and feedback from leadership as needed., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Valid driver’s license., • At least six months of manufacturing experience operating CNC mills and CNC routers, including machine setup at the machine., • At least six months of experience operating CNC mills or router machines using Fanuc controls., • Two or more years of machine operating experience in a production environment., • Intermediate or higher CNC operation experience, particularly on 3-axis machines., • Ability to operate CNC mills, CNC routers, and related equipment using Fanuc and Haas controls., • Ability to perform machine setups, including loading tools, setting offsets, and preparing fixtures on 3-axis machines., • Strong reading skills to interpret blueprints, shop travelers, and work instructions., • Solid math skills to perform measurements, calculations, and basic machining math., • Good organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills to meet production schedules., • Effective written and oral communication skills to document work and coordinate with team members., • Basic computer skills to complete data entry and job processing in production systems., • Ability to measure using different tools, including micrometers and calipers, to verify part dimensions., • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while also following directions and procedures., • Strong work ethic and self-motivation, with a focus on quality and productivity., • Commitment to operating with high integrity and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and partners., • Ability to stand for more than three-quarters of the shift and perform frequent use of hands and arms., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds more than three-quarters of the time and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds., • Ability to push and pull between 25 and 50 pounds more than three-quarters of the time., • Ability to kneel, crawl, twist, balance, bend, and climb for more than half of the time., • Ability to talk, hear, and maintain close vision for extended periods to monitor equipment and product quality., • Coursework in metalworking, blueprint reading, drafting, and math., • Two years of machine operating experience in a metal fabrication or machining environment., • One or more years of CNC router operation experience., • Experience with Mastercam programming or similar CAM software., • Exposure to 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining operations., • Experience with Hyundai, Haas, Mazak, and related CNC equipment., • Experience working with aviation-grade and marine-grade metals, including 2000, 5000, and 7000 series alloys., • Troubleshooting skills for CNC machines, including diagnosing and resolving issues related to tooling, programs, and machine performance., • Experience with grinding operations and related finishing processes. Work Environment The role is based in a metal fabrication warehouse that is not climate controlled but is designed to remain comfortable throughout the year. In colder months, heaters maintain a workable temperature, and in warmer months, large fans and open doors help circulate air. You will work primarily with aviation-grade and some marine-grade metals, cutting material to order specifications on CNC mills and routers using Fanuc and Haas controls, as well as equipment from manufacturers such as Hyundai and Mazak. The facility operates with a smaller team of around a few dozen employees, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. This position is on 3rd shift, typically Sunday through Thursday from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with Fridays reserved for overtime as needed, and includes a 30-minute lunch period. The environment requires frequent visual and auditory attention to recognize maintenance needs and monitor equipment performance. You will be exposed to hazardous machinery, sharp tools, moving objects, noise, heat, and humidity, and must follow all safety procedures and use appropriate tools and equipment.
