Job Description This role is accountable for driving retail store sales and optimizing the organization’s net income. The Senior Director of Retail Stores leads the implementation of retail strategic plans, guided by the Senior Vice President of Retail Operations. They oversee the execution of key retail initiatives by directing and developing the Regional Director leadership team. Compensation & Incentives The Senior Director, Retail Stores is eligible to participate in Goodwill’s Management Incentive Plan (MIP) with a target bonus of 15% of eligible base salary. Leadership & Development • Responsible for providing leadership, team and individual development to the Retail Store teams., • Motivates and inspires the sales team to stay focused on the organization’s goals., • Recruits, develops and manages a diverse staff., • Identifies and evaluates trends in employee strengths and opportunities and provides direction for training and development for further growth., • Coaches, trains and develops teams, providing clear direction and challenging goals., • Responsible for the successful management of the needs of the organization’s customers to meet the objectives of the organization’s overall plans and strategies., • Ensures the highest possible standards for the employee experience and their engagement by providing a clean, safe, comfortable, fair and open environment for employees in partnership with Human Resources., • Strives for continuous customer and donor satisfaction improvement through quality store operations., • Ensures all laws and internal policies / procedures are executed to further ensure quality customer, employee and participant experience., • Monitors and guides processes to maximize donations by controlling inventory levels and ensuring overall donations life-cycle strategy is executed properly., • Directs all sites in best practices for maximizing product margins through pricing, proper presentation and accurate entry into the POS system., • Communicates and implements promotion events in accordance with marketing direction., • Oversees the execution of product implementation, merchandising and signage standards., • Works with organization resources to support and execute directives with partners such as Human Resources, Loss Prevention & Safety, Finance, and Marketing., • Monitors and controls expenses within budget guidelines and adjusts the operation as necessary., • Responsible for the establishment of both annual and monthly retail store sales and net income objectives in coordination with the organization’s annual plan and budget., • Develops an annual sales plan and provides quarterly updates, revisions and modifications to the plan through direction provided by SVP, Retail Operations., • Coordinates the specific objectives of the sales plan with all functional departments of the organization (e.g., Facilities, Marketing, Finance, HR, IT,etc.)., • Recommends new strategies, tactics and plans for future retail growth in support of the ongoing organization 3-year strategic modelling., • Provides direction for quality, production and operational excellence in retail., • Keeps up-to-date with market and industry trends, competitors and customer strategies., • Manages the monthly and annual sales objectives for all sales personnel. Other Duties • Responsible for being familiar with Goodwill Central Texas’ employee handbook and organizational policies., • Responsible for learning, understanding, and practicing all safety policies and procedures., • Team member development – Professional and skills development., • Management / supervision of multi-unit managers – 3+ year minimum, 5+ years preferred., • Softlines and/or Hardlines retail experience preferred., • Ability to navigate and influence cross-functionally with support teams and business partners, • Strong independent work skills, personal organization, and drive., • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written – Fast and efficient with modern communication vehicles (email/text)., • Hands on approach to training, coaching and inspection skills., • Ability to pull a team together cohesively and leverage the unique skills and talents of each individual to perform better holistically., • Ability to adapt and lead within an ever-changing environment and ability to help progress employees through such changes., • Performance management – Ability to analyze data, observe behaviors, solicit feedback, and in turn, identify practices and behaviors necessary for improvement in business results., • Talent management – Ability to source, identify, and develop quality talent for replacement and bench-strength based upon their background and tenure., • Organizational agility – Ability to understand and navigate various field and office support mechanisms., • Proven history of utilizing POS, scheduling software, spreadsheets, onboarding software, HRIS, payroll., • History of, or comfort with, working in an environment where team members utilize heavy equipment and perform extensive manual labor., • Basic weekly expectations – Daily vehicle travel, occasional overnights, multi-tasking administrative work (meeting scheduling, conference calls, etc.), occasional weekends, 24-hour accessibility (available for any issues that may arise after-hours)., • Proven ability to drive sales., • Strong conflict management skills., • Ability to recruit quality individuals., • Ability to interact with a diverse population., • Strong conflict management skills., • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritize., • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously., • Budgeting and cost analysis procedure expertise., • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills., • Excellent attention to detail., • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately., • Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service and to lead a staff that does the same. This position has supervisory responsibilities over the Regional Director team. Required Skills • Minimum of 10 years of high-volume/traffic retail experience, including single-unit, multi-unit management, and management of multi-unit managers, with 3+ years of required; 5+ years preferred., • Additional retail corporate and/or support function leadership preferred., • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or related preferred., • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment., • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer., • Must be able to lift to 30 pounds at times., • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear., • The ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
