Job Description Job Title: Huma Resources & Safety Coordinator Department: Human Resources Reports to: Office Manager FLSA Status: Hourly Position Summary: This role is responsible for Human Resources Admin support and focused on Safety Coordinator to oversee and implement workplace safety programs at our facility. The HR/Safety Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that all safety procedures, policies, and practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations, with a focus on preventing accidents and promoting a culture of health and safety for all farm employees. Essential Functions: Essential functions, as defined under the American with Disability Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Key Responsibilities: • Safety Program Management:, • Develop, implement, and maintain safety protocols specific to farm operations including planting, harvesting, irrigation, and pesticide application., • Monitor compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies’ safety standards., • Maintain records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions., • Promote safety culture by recognizing employee contributions (e.g., safety suggestion awards) and encouraging proactive reporting., • Training & Education:, • Send out weekly safety reviews for employees, including proper equipment use, chemical handling, PPE usage, heat stress awareness, and emergency procedures., • Provide new hire orientations focusing on workplace safety., • Inspections & Risk Assessments:, • Perform routine safety audits and inspections of greenhouses, growing areas, machinery, and farm infrastructure., • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks., • Incident Management:, • Respond to and investigate workplace incidents and near misses., • Track and analyze workplace injuries, including root cause analysis and trend reporting. For example, recent reports highlighted preventable injuries such as slips, falls, and equipment misuse., • Document findings and recommend preventative measures., • Including and not limited to calling the nurse hotline, coordinating Workman’s compensation visits to our Medical Clinic, handling Modified Duty letters, etc.., • Regulatory Compliance:, • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of relevant safety regulations and agricultural safety practices., • Prepare for and assist with regulatory inspections and audits., • Collaboration:, • Work closely with operations, HR, and maintenance teams to ensure integrated safety practices., • Hold and lead Monthly Safety Meetings with Farm Management Team., • Attend Maintenance Review Meeting., • Education & Experience:, • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or a related field preferred., • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a safety role, preferably in an agricultural, horticultural, or outdoor industrial setting., • Certifications:, • OSHA 10-hour certification is preferred., • First Aid/CPR certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire)., • Skills:, • Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills., • Ability to train and influence employees across all levels., • Strong observational and problem-solving skills., • Bilingual in English/Spanish a must., • Excellent time management., • Other duties: Working Conditions: • Indoor and Outdoor conditions including heat, humidity, and varying weather., • Walking on uneven ground and working around farm machinery. This job does not have supervisory responsibilities. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interact effectively with customers or employees of our organization. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with several variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other Skills and Abilities: Dependability and punctuality are mandatory.
