Job Description Job Title: General Laborer – Wash/Paint Associate Job Description This role focuses on producing high-quality painted glass products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You prepare, wash, paint, and inspect glass using both automated equipment and hand-spraying tools, while loading and unloading materials and ensuring all products meet strict quality standards. Responsibilities • Produce high-quality painted glass products on time, safely, and at the lowest possible cost., • Prepare glass surfaces for washing, painting, and inspection according to daily production requirements., • Prepare paint for use on automated paint machines and hand-spraying equipment., • Communicate with the tempering line to coordinate workflow and inspect products based on daily production schedules., • Clean wet paint from glass edges and visible surfaces to ensure a proper finish., • Work closely with teammates to rack, cure, and bake newly painted glass pieces., • Hand-spray small-volume or custom orders as needed using appropriate spray guns and techniques., • Create, retain, and catalog job-specific paint samples and touch-up paint bottles for future reference., • Formulate small paint batches to accurately match customer-supplied master samples, including Pantone, Sherwin-Williams, and other color standards., • Apply masks and layouts to create custom logos and designs on glass surfaces., • Incorporate remake requests and rush orders into the daily production schedule without compromising quality., • Inspect glass and finished products to ensure they meet internal quality standards aligned with or exceeding half of ASTM standards., • Load and unload glass and related materials safely and efficiently., • Ensure proper spray patterns on automated paint machines and related equipment., • Change paper rolls and other consumables on painting equipment as required., • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of paint machines, components, ovens, and surrounding work areas., • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the paint area at the end of each shift., • Demonstrate respect, positivity, and a strong work ethic on the shop floor., • Follow all safety guidelines, including safe lifting practices up to 50 pounds and proper use of tools and equipment., • Sign and adhere to the employee handbook and all workplace policies. Essential Skills • Ability to work as a general laborer in a fast-paced manufacturing environment., • Capability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly., • Experience with loading and unloading materials in a production or warehouse setting., • Basic experience using spray guns for painting or coating applications., • Ability to use a tape measure accurately for measurements and layouts., • Attention to detail when inspecting parts and finished products for quality., • Comfort working with automated paint machines and hand-spraying equipment., • Ability to follow production schedules and adjust work to accommodate rush orders and remakes., • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to follow written procedures and the employee handbook., • Effective communication skills to coordinate with peers and other production areas. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in the furniture industry or similar manufacturing environments is highly beneficial., • Experience preparing, painting, and inspecting glass or other delicate materials., • Familiarity with color standards such as Pantone and Sherwin-Williams for matching paint batches., • Ability to apply masks, layouts, and custom logos or designs on products., • Comfort working with curing ovens and understanding basic curing processes., • Organizational skills to catalog paint samples and maintain touch-up paint inventories., • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly work area and perform routine equipment maintenance., • Flexibility to work within set start times and coordinate with production shifts. Work Environment This role is based in a fast-paced manufacturing facility focused on glass washing, painting, and inspection. The core schedule runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the first day starting at 8:00 a.m. You work on the shop floor using spray guns, tape measures, ovens for curing paint, automated paint machines, and other production equipment while loading and unloading glass and materials. The area requires consistent cleanliness and organization at the end of each shift. Dress is casual but must meet workplace guidelines: tank tops are allowed if straps are greater than 1 inch and provide full coverage, shorts are allowed if they are not excessively short, and leggings are permitted when worn with a shirt long enough to cover the backside. Headphones are allowed as long as you can communicate effectively with peers and are not driving powered industrial equipment. Before starting, you review and sign the employee handbook and follow all safety and conduct policies while working in this production environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $19.00/hr.
