Job DescriptionDescription: Job Summary The Service Educator provides person-centered instruction and support to help participants build independence in life skills, nutrition, wellness, and daily living activities. This role delivers both individual and group learning experiences in participants' homes and on Minnesota Independence College and Community (MICC) campus that meet MICC standards, promoting participant growth through skill-building, goal-setting, and consistent encouragement. In addition to managing a billable caseload, the Service Educator is expected to adapt to program needs—such as supporting other service areas or providing coverage—to ensure high-quality services across MICC. Schedule Late afternoon and evening shifts, including weekends (working on Sundays is required). Skill Development, Instruction, and Goal Setting • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in cooking, meal planning, grocery shopping, cleaning, organizing, laundry, fitness, schedule coordination, and shuttle trips to grocery stores and the YMCA, • Develop individualized, goal-driven support plans in collaboration with advisors, incorporating accommodations as needed, • Utilize active and experiential learning models, adjusting instructional methods to meet a variety of learning styles, • Follow prompt fading schedules, conduct skill assessments, and adapt materials to meet participant needs, • Build positive, trust-based relationships with participants, fostering motivation and personal accountability, • Communicate regularly with advisors regarding participant progress, needs, and service adjustments, • Support participants in meeting service expectations as outlined in the Participant and Community Handbook, • Maintain professional and effective communication with colleagues, families, and community partners, • Track participant attendance, performance, and progress in MICC’s data systems, • Prepare progress reports and use data to adjust instruction and service delivery, • Monitor and document individual participant achievements, challenges, and skill development, • Collaborate with colleagues, advisors, and family members to ensure equitable access to opportunities and resources, • Participate in department meetings, family weekends, graduation events, and other community activities, • Provide one-on-one skill development support when needed, • Seek out and build partnerships with community resources to enhance program offerings, • Support other service areas or provide coverage when program needs arise, • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience, • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism highly desirable, • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, • Ability to relate to, motivate, and engage a diverse population, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and good judgment, • Commitment to confidentiality and respect for all participants, staff, families, and community members MICC offers a competitive salary and an incredible benefits package, including, but not limited to: • Medical and Dental Insurance*, • Health Savings Account (HSA) & Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), • Basic Life Insurance & Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance, • Short-Term Disability (STD) Insurance & Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance**, • 403(b) Retirement Plans*** **MICC pays the premiums for both STD and LTD ***100% immediate vesting with 4% Safe Harbor Match (if the employee contributes 5%) Paid Time Off (PTO) MICC offers a generous amount of Paid Time Off (PTO): • 176 hours / 22 days (prorated upon start date) of paid vacation time, • 80 hours / 10 days (accrued at 3.33 hours per pay period) of paid sick time, • 80 hours / 10 days (holiday schedule available upon request) of paid holidays If you're ready to embark on a rewarding career, please submit your application. Sign-On Bonus Terms • Gross pay of $250 upon hire date (paid on the first paycheck following MICC's payroll schedule), • Gross pay of $250 at 90 days of employment (must be in good standing in order to receive the bonus)
