Job Description Opportunity at a Glance The Evidence Clerk is responsible for the secure intake, cataloging, storage, retrieval, and disposal of all evidence and property recovered by the Orland Park Police Department. This position handles confidential information always requiring strict confidentiality. The role requires certification in LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) and training in LERMS (Law Enforcement Report Management System). Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 32 hours per week. Part Time benefits are eligible after five years of employment which include vacation time, sick time and personal time. Key Responsibilities • Receive and inspect submitted evidence to ensure proper packaging which can include firearms and hazardous biological or chemical materials., • Accurately log and catalog evidence and property in LERMS., • Store items in designated secure locations within the evidence facility., • Retrieve evidence for court proceedings, inspections and authorized property releases., • Coordinate lawful destruction and disposal of property, including firearms, electronic devices and controlled substances., • Operate an industrial incinerator in accordance with safety procedures and required PPE (training provided)., • Manage prescription drug take-back program and assist with proper storage and disposal., • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and security of the evidence room, including disposal of large refuse containers. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills • Proficiency with computer systems and database software., • Ability to maintain organized records across multiple storage areas., • Ability to safely lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and safely climb stairs daily., • Professional communication skills to interact effectively with the public and court representatives., • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Compensation & Benefits Hourly pay rate is $27.28 - $34.39, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is an IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) eligible position.
