Job DescriptionJob Title: Shipping and Receiving Associate Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Associate accurately receives products, organizes and puts away inventory, pulls and prepares customer orders, and loads outbound shipments. This role supports daily warehouse operations by handling product labeling, documentation, and shipment processing while maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced, independent work environment. Responsibilities • Receive incoming products and materials, verify quantities and descriptions, and ensure items are accurately recorded in the warehouse management system., • Put away inventory in designated locations, using scanning and labeling tools to maintain accurate stock records., • Pull and stage customer orders according to pick lists and shipment requirements, ensuring accuracy and completeness., • Palletize products by placing items onto skids, wrapping them securely, and preparing them for shipment., • Label pallets and packages correctly according to specific customer requirements, paying close attention to details that impact cost, time, and customer satisfaction., • Load trucks for shipping in a safe and organized manner, ensuring products are secured and properly documented., • Use a sit-down forklift occasionally (up to approximately 10% of the workday) to move pallets, load and unload trucks, and organize warehouse materials as needed., • Prepare and manage Bills of Lading (BOL) and process shipments using UPS WorldShip or similar shipping software., • Participate in quarterly inventory counts, assisting with cycle counts, adjustments, and reconciliation of physical inventory with system records., • Use a computer and basic software tools to weigh, label, and ship products, and to track shipments and orders., • Utilize Excel and other computer applications to record shipment details, maintain logs, and support inventory and order tracking., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the warehouse and shipping/receiving zones., • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail., • Manage a large volume of work efficiently, staying proactive by seeking out additional tasks and support activities during slower periods., • Collaborate effectively with a small warehouse team and supervisor, communicating clearly about orders, inventory issues, and shipment priorities., • Follow all company procedures and quality standards related to packaging, labeling, documentation, and shipping., • Complete required basic math testing (including decimals and fractions) and apply these skills when weighing, counting, and verifying product quantities.Essential Skills, • Previous warehouse (WH) experience in shipping, receiving, or general warehouse operations., • Experience using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) to scan, track, and manage inventory., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and handle physical tasks such as palletizing, wrapping, and moving materials., • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use shipping software, email, and data entry tools., • Ability to use Excel to track shipments, update logs, and support order and inventory tracking., • Basic math skills, including working with decimals and fractions, and the ability to pass a basic math test with a score of 70% or higher., • Strong attention to detail, especially when labeling products and pallets according to specific customer requirements., • Ability to work independently with accuracy and minimal supervision., • Capacity to handle a large volume of work while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines., • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a small team environment., • Willingness and ability to occasionally operate a sit-down forklift as part of daily tasks.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with automotive parts or within the automotive industry., • At least 6 months of experience operating a sit-down forklift., • Familiarity with shipping processes, including preparing Bills of Lading (BOL)., • Experience using UPS WorldShip or similar parcel shipping software., • Comfort working in a manufacturing or machine shop environment., • Proactive mindset, with the ability to look for additional tasks and support areas when primary work is completed., • Strong organizational skills and a focus on accuracy in documentation and recordkeeping.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a warehouse setting within a manufacturing environment that produces metal fasteners for the automotive industry. The facility operates Monday through Friday with a day shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The environment includes a mix of warehouse and light manufacturing activity, with equipment such as pallet jacks, sit-down forklifts used occasionally, and computers at individual workstations for shipment processing and tracking. The team is small, consisting of approximately four people and a supervisor, so collaboration, reliability, and the ability to get along well with others are important. Work is primarily performed on the warehouse floor and at a dedicated desk within the manufacturing area, involving regular use of computers, Excel, and shipping systems to weigh, label, and ship products, as well as to track orders and shipments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove Village, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr.
