Overview The Director of Fleet, Assets & Driver Administration will provide strategic leadership and corporate governance for the organization’s fleet vehicles, rolling stock, construction equipment, trailers, tools, and company-owned assets. This leader will establish a scalable, centralized operating model across multiple markets and operating companies. Responsibilities include fleet strategy, asset lifecycle management, driver administration, regulatory compliance, maintenance and reliability, capital planning, procurement, risk management, technology systems, and executive reporting. The Director will ensure that vehicles and equipment are properly deployed, maintained, tracked, and managed in a way that supports safe operations, regulatory compliance, operational performance, and disciplined capital investment. Key Responsibilities Fleet Strategy and Governance • Develop and execute a national fleet and asset management strategy., • Establish standardized policies, controls, specifications, and governance across operating companies., • Maintain organizational accountability for pickup trucks, service trucks, bucket trucks, construction vehicles, trailers, support vehicles, and specialty vehicles., • Create vehicle replacement, lifecycle, utilization, transfer, disposal, and remarketing programs., • Coordinate vehicle registration, titling, licensing, renewals, fuel cards, telematics, and GPS tracking., • Monitor vehicle assignments and optimize deployment across markets. Equipment and Asset Management • Build and maintain a comprehensive asset management program for construction equipment, field technology, tools, and support assets., • Oversee assets such as directional drills, locating equipment, vacuum excavation equipment, generators, compressors, fiber construction equipment, splicing and testing equipment, restoration equipment, and related tools., • Implement company-wide asset tagging, inventory controls, and standardized assignment procedures., • Maintain accurate visibility into asset location, condition, assignment, and utilization., • Coordinate asset transfers among operating companies and markets., • Develop asset replacement forecasts, utilization reporting, and return-on-investment analysis. Driver Administration and Regulatory Compliance • Serve as the corporate owner for driver qualification and administration., • Establish driver onboarding, qualification, and documentation procedures., • Manage Driver Qualification Files, motor vehicle record reviews, CDL requirements, and medical certification compliance., • Ensure adherence to applicable DOT, FMCSA, state transportation, and insurance carrier requirements., • Coordinate driver safety training and monitor driver performance., • Manage accident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and related compliance activities. Maintenance and Reliability • Establish national preventive maintenance standards for fleet vehicles and construction equipment., • Develop and manage maintenance vendor networks and repair service expectations., • Monitor preventive maintenance completion, equipment uptime, vehicle downtime, and overall reliability., • Manage warranty administration and track maintenance expenses and trends., • Implement fleet reliability reporting and performance indicators. Procurement and Capital Planning • Partner with Operations, Finance, and executive leadership to forecast fleet and equipment requirements., • Develop annual capital expenditure and replacement plans., • Evaluate lease-versus-buy strategies using lifecycle cost and operational requirements., • Negotiate vehicle, equipment, financing, leasing, and vendor agreements., • Establish preferred supplier relationships and standardized procurement practices., • Support the integration of fleet and equipment assets associated with acquisitions. Insurance and Risk Management • Partner with Risk Management and Finance on vehicle claims, equipment claims, property damage, theft, and recovery activities., • Maintain fleet-related insurance documentation and supporting records., • Analyze accident and loss trends and develop corrective-action plans., • Provide fleet and asset data needed for insurance renewals and risk evaluations. Systems, Reporting, and Internal Controls • Develop and maintain centralized fleet, asset, maintenance, and driver compliance databases., • Lead the selection or implementation of fleet management, telematics, asset tracking, and maintenance scheduling technology., • Create executive dashboards and standardized reporting., • Establish asset audit procedures and coordinate periodic fleet and equipment inspections., • Maintain compliance with organizational controls and documentation requirements., • Track performance measures including utilization, downtime, preventive maintenance compliance, cost per mile, fuel efficiency, inventory accuracy, driver compliance, accident frequency, capital budget performance, and total cost of ownership. Operational Support • Advise market leaders on fleet planning, equipment deployment, asset transfers, and emergency-response needs., • Participate in major project mobilizations and demobilizations., • Support the launch of new markets and operating locations., • Recommend fleet and equipment requirements for new business opportunities. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation, Construction Management, or a related field., • At least 10 years of progressive experience in fleet, asset, equipment, or operations management., • At least five years of leadership experience supporting multi-state operations., • Demonstrated experience managing construction equipment fleets., • Strong working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA requirements., • Experience using fleet management software platforms., • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and reporting systems., • Ability to travel nationally as required., • Demonstrated financial acumen and experience with capital planning, cost analysis, or total-cost-of-ownership management., • Ability to establish scalable systems, processes, and controls in a growing organization., • Strong executive communication, cross-functional collaboration, and change-management skills. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in the telecommunications, utility, infrastructure, or construction industries., • Certified Automotive Fleet Manager designation., • Certified Equipment Manager designation., • Experience supporting a private equity-backed or acquisition-oriented organization., • Experience managing a portfolio exceeding 500 vehicles and related assets., • Experience centralizing fleet or asset functions across multiple business units or operating companies. Work Environment, Travel, and Schedule This position will begin in a remote work arrangement. Starting in January 2027, the successful candidate must be able to maintain an onsite presence at the organization’s new office in downtown Atlanta. The specific office location and onsite schedule will be communicated once finalized. National travel will be required based on operational, project, market, and business needs.
