Job Description Job Summary: The 503B Sterile Compounding Technician is responsible for the preparation and admixture of sterile pharmaceutical products in a highly controlled, regulated environment. This technician will undergo a stringent training program to become qualified to work in aseptic environment inside ISO 7 rooms and ISO 5 workspaces, ensuring admixtures are completed properly per FDA and cGMP requirements. The 503B Sterile Compounding Technician is also responsible for managing product inventory and supplies and is expected to maintain a highly organized clean room. This technician will work with the team to ensure compliance to standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements. Job Activities and Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are subject to change. • Sterile compounder must have knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), United States Pharmacopeia General Chapter <797> Pharmaceutical Compounding – Sterile Preparations, FDA regulations, and follow policies and Standard Operating Procedures., • Maintain manufacturing records and completes all required documentation in compliance with cGMP, FDA, USP and pharmacy state board regulatory guidelines., • Operate and monitor technical, computerized compounding/filling equipment ensuring quality standards are maintained., • Responsible for weighing and mixing activities associated with the compounding of sterile medications., • Prepare records and monitor results for pharmaceutical quality assurance testing., • Responsible for device and/or equipment sterilization processes under pharmacist supervision., • Position requires close attention to detail. Standards for potency, quality, purity, integrity, sterility, and endotoxin content must be consistently met., • Monitor inventory levels for re-order of low inventory or expiring chemicals, compounds, devices and/or containers., • Verify materials for use in batch compounding., • Support daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the environment with appropriate disinfectants and techniques., • Complete end of batch reconciliation and count verification., • Initial and ongoing aseptic technique competency evaluation must be successfully completed as required in the policies and procedures., • Successful completion all product validations and advances complex media fill verifications., • Other duties as assigned by department or pharmacy manager. Minimum qualifications: • Active pharmacy technician registration with the State Board of Pharmacy. License must be in good standing., • Strong aseptic technique and hand-eye coordination, • 503B Sterile compounding experience (preferred), • PTCB Certification (preferred), • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints Physical requirements: • Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines., • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods., • Effective communication skills via telephone and email., • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds as needed., • 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements. This individual will serve as the primary clinical reviewer for the Plan’s coverage determinations and appeals and grievances (CDAG), which may apply to Medicare or Commercial business and drugs covered under the medical or pharmacy benefit. This position will monitor prescription drug utilization, coverage policies, and costs to identify and address issues related to quality and cost-effectiveness. This role will assist in supporting Pharmacy Department efforts towards attainment of a minimum 4 Star CMS Medicare Advantage Plan Star Rating when supporting the Medicare line of business. Key Responsibilities • Apply criteria for drug related coverage determinations, exception requests, complaints and appeals, and ensure criteria and decisions are properly communicated and applied. Research individual cases and render decisions in consultation with Department Management or Medical Directors if required., • Assist with development and maintenance of coverage determinations decision flow charts to assist with review application and ensure processes are carried out in accordance with CMS and other regulatory requirements., • Participate in on-call rotation for coverage determinations to satisfy regulatory requirements, including periodic weekend and holiday work as needed., • Assist the Department in monitoring drug cost and utilization trends in aggregate and on a patient specific basis to identify quality issues, as well as clinically appropriate cost-saving opportunities., • Assist with development and implementation of procedures for addressing these opportunities, physician and member communications (one-one or general), programs in conjunction with internal or external stakeholders, and benefit/formulary adjustment recommendations., • Assist with clinical oversight of PBM administration of formulary, utilization management criteria, and tools and platforms., • Attend and prepare clinical updates for the Plan’s oversight committees as needed., • Develop and present training, reports, and other communications for internal staff, providers, and other stakeholders related to clinical pharmacy issues, such as drug pipeline information., • Participate in regulatory reviews and quality initiatives as needed. Work closely with the Pharmacy department to ensure a common understanding of all programs and interventions to ensure they are properly communicated and implemented., • Registered Pharmacist (Rph) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), • Licensed Pharmacist in good standing with the State of Alabama, • Excellent oral and written communication skills, • Good computer skills including Microsoft suite of products, • Ability to prioritize effectively and collaborate with all levels of associates, • 3 years’ experience in coverage determinations, health plan, or pharmacy benefits management and/or a managed care pharmacy residency, • Knowledge of coverage determinations and appeals & grievances, • Knowledge of health plan pharmacy benefit administration processes

Supervisory Responsibilities • Is calm, collected, professional, friendly, and helpful with all phone and walk-in requests from patients., • Answers telephone in a timely manner, following organizational and departmental policy., • Assist customers by answering simple non-medical questions, filling prescriptions, checking out previously approved prescriptions or referring them to the pharmacists for medication information., • Receive written prescriptions or electronic fill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate. Use the information to enter a prescription for filling., • Fill prescription using the premade labels to determine which medication is needed. Fill prescriptions bottles with the correctly counted prescribed medications and affix correct premade labels for the pharmacist to verify., • Complete owes from previous day., • Operate cash register to accept payment from customers., • Inventory management, which includes, but is not limited to: ordering, restocking, entering order, updating inventory counts, maintaining par levels, verifying expiration dates and removing at risk medications.
