Job DescriptionJob Title: Fabricator TIG Welder Job Description This role focuses on the layout, fabrication, and welding of HVAC sheet metal components using MIG, TIG, and stick welding on galvanized steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. You will work in a sheet metal shop that designs, fabricates, and supports the installation of HVAC and dust collection systems, as well as specialty sheet metal products for commercial and industrial projects. The position combines hands-on fabrication, equipment operation, material handling, and quality assurance in a family-owned mechanical environment. Responsibilities • Perform day-to-day fabrication activities using galvanized sheet metal, stainless steel, and aluminum for HVAC and dust collection systems., • Lay out, fabricate, and assemble sheet metal components by analyzing work orders, blueprints, control drawings, and completed assemblies., • Develop sheet metal projects by calculating material requirements, determining appropriate fabrication methods, and sketching accurate layouts., • Fabricate components by cutting, forming, fitting, and fastening pieces using shop equipment such as shears, brakes, drive machines, spot welders, and related tools., • Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on various metals to produce high-quality welds that meet internal and industry standards., • Verify quality by inspecting and testing fabricated components to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards., • Ensure compliance with internal fabrication processes, industry standards, and company safety protocols at all times., • Maintain a clean and organized workstation through daily clean up and proper storage of tools and materials., • Receive, unload, and organize incoming materials using a forklift and other material-handling equipment., • Pick up and deliver materials to and from job sites as needed, ensuring accurate and timely deliveries., • Use tape measures and other measuring tools to perform precise measurements and layout work., • Apply strong math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and computation of rates, ratios, percentages, and geometric figures such as half circles., • Read and interpret cut sheets, blueprints, schematics, plans, specifications, and control drawings to fabricate required components., • Accurately track and record time spent on each job to support scheduling and cost tracking., • Report damaged tools, materials, and equipment promptly to the Shop Supervisor or appropriate contact., • Communicate clearly and professionally with the Shop Supervisor and co-workers regarding schedule changes, potential delays, and rework needs., • Maintain a professional attitude with internal customers, team members, and other departments., • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, performing basic troubleshooting, maintaining supplies, and conducting preventive maintenance, and arranging for repairs when necessary., • Comply with company, industry, and regulatory safety standards and procedures to maintain a safe work environment., • Demonstrate flexibility by working outside normal work hours or on weekends when required to meet project or production demands., • Follow directions accurately and complete all required paperwork thoroughly and on time., • Strive to minimize rework and scrap materials by producing accurate and precise work., • Demonstrate a strong desire to learn and grow by continuously improving skills, techniques, and knowledge of fabrication and welding.Essential Skills, • Ability to perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on galvanized steel, stainless steel, and aluminum., • Minimum of 3 years fabrication experience, with 5 or more years preferred., • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, plans, specifications, and control drawings., • Strong mathematics skills, including working with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and calculating rate, ratio, percentage, and geometric figures such as half circles., • Ability to read and interpret cut sheets and translate them into accurate fabricated components., • Ability to use a tape measure accurately for layout and measurement., • Ability to operate shop equipment including, but not limited to, shears, brakes, drive machines, spot welders, and forklifts., • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily work., • Ability to develop sheet metal projects by analyzing work orders and determining appropriate fabrication methods., • Skill in inspecting and testing fabricated components to verify quality and compliance with specifications., • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and internal stakeholders., • Strong attention to detail and accuracy to reduce rework and scrap materials., • Ability to follow directions, complete paperwork properly, and adhere to established processes and standards., • Commitment to following company, industry, and regulatory safety standards and protocols.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working in an HVAC sheet metal shop or mechanical fabrication environment., • Comfort using and maintaining welding-related equipment and personal protective equipment, including welding hoods., • Experience working with stainless steel and sheet metal in a production or job-shop setting., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform preventive maintenance., • Experience tracking time per job and working within production schedules., • Demonstrated desire to learn, grow, and take on additional responsibility over time., • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and communicate clearly with supervisors and co-workers., • Preferred experience level of 5 or more years in fabrication and welding., • Ability to handle occasional schedule changes and work outside normal hours when needed.Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in a growing, family-owned and operated mechanical shop with a small team of around ten employees, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. The standard schedule runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with only occasional work outside normal hours or on weekends when project demands require it. The role is primarily shop-based, involving hands-on fabrication, welding, and equipment operation using tools such as shears, brakes, drive machines, spot welders, forklifts, hand seamers, aviation snips, sheet metal hammers, vice grips, cordless impact drills, and tape measures. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to procedures, with expectations for maintaining clean workstations and following all safety protocols while working around metal fabrication equipment and materials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.
