Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Mill Machinist (Days) Job Description This role focuses on precision CNC machining of very large, heavy components used in subsea pipelines, valve bodies, flange-like pieces, and large drill bits. You will operate primarily on large milling machines and horizontal boring mills, occasionally using vertical turning lathes, to produce tight-tolerance parts in a job shop environment. You will work with Fanuc controls, perform G-code edits, and run machines at programmed speeds and feeds while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. Responsibilities • Set up and operate large CNC milling machines and horizontal boring mills to machine parts over 6 feet tall that weigh thousands of pounds., • Perform precision machining of subsea and industrial components such as pipeline parts, valve bodies, flange-like pieces, and large drill bits to tight tolerances., • Use Fanuc controls to run programs and make G-code edits as needed to ensure optimal performance and part quality., • Work in a job shop environment, machining a wide variety of custom parts rather than mass production components., • Run machines confidently at programmed speeds and feeds, avoiding unnecessary slowdowns while maintaining safety and quality., • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to set up and machine parts accurately., • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specifications., • Set up machines, including tooling, workholding, and fixtures, for both vertical and horizontal milling operations., • Operate additional equipment such as vertical mills, VTLs, long bed lathes, and horizontal mills as required by the job., • Move and handle large parts independently using appropriate equipment and safe material-handling practices, as there is no dedicated material handler., • Collaborate closely with welders and quality control personnel to support multi-step processes where parts are machined, welded, and re-machined over extended timeframes., • Follow strict safety procedures and contribute to a culture that prioritizes safety due to the size and complexity of the parts., • Maintain a clean and organized work area within a large shop environment, adapting to the challenges of working with oversized components., • Support day-to-day shop operations, including assisting teammates, sharing knowledge, and helping ensure production goals are met.Essential Skills, • 5+ years of CNC machining experience with large parts., • Proven job shop experience with custom work rather than mass production., • Strong experience operating CNC mills, including vertical and horizontal mills., • Hands-on experience with Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM)., • Experience operating Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL)., • Proficiency with Fanuc controls and G-code editing., • Ability to perform CNC setup, including tooling and workholding for complex, large components., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings., • Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers., • Demonstrated safety awareness in a machine shop environment, especially when working with large, heavy parts., • Experience with CNC machining centers, including CNC mills and long bed lathes., • Comfort working with multi-axis CNC equipment in a job shop setting., • Ability to run machines at programmed speeds and feeds without excessive caution while maintaining quality and safety.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with vertical mills and horizontal mills., • Experience with long bed lathes., • CNC programming experience beyond basic G-code edits., • Extensive job shop experience with a wide range of part types and materials., • Familiarity with Mazak equipment and controls is beneficial., • Experience working with robotic and arc welding operations as part of an integrated process is a plus., • Comfort working on long-cycle jobs where parts may take weeks to complete through multiple machining and welding stages.Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in a large, air-conditioned shop designed to accommodate very large parts. The facility is clean, though organization can be challenging due to the size of the components and the need to position them wherever they fit safely. The culture is strongly safety-oriented, with strict procedures in place because of the size and weight of the parts and the complexity of the operations. The team includes about 12 CNC machinists on day shift, 2 on night shift, 8 welders performing arc and robotic welding, and 2 quality control professionals. Parts often follow a long process, for example taking about one week to machine, three days to weld, and another week to re-machine, and machinists are responsible for moving their own parts using appropriate equipment. The standard day shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with typical Saturday work of 8–10 hours; Sunday work is not common but may occur in special circumstances. Steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, and a work shirt are required as part of the dress code. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookside Village, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
