Job Description Job Title: CNC Machinist Job Description The CNC Machinist sets up and operates CNC equipment, primarily CNC mills, to produce high-quality precision parts. This role works with Haas and Mazak machinery, interprets blueprints, and performs detailed inspections using a variety of gauging tools, including CMM, to ensure all parts meet strict aerospace standards. Responsibilities • Set up and operate assigned CNC equipment, with a primary focus on CNC mills., • Work with Haas and Mazak CNC machinery to machine parts to specification., • Use common inspection equipment such as micrometers, indicators, and calipers to verify part quality., • Perform first piece sample verification of work completed by others throughout the manufacturing operation., • Detect and promptly report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor., • Assist in training other operators in the safe use and proper operation of CNC equipment., • Maintain accurate time reporting and make precise entries on manufacturing and inspection records., • Conduct inspections using a variety of gauging tools, including coordinate measuring machines (CMM)., • Interpret and work from blueprints and drawings to perform G-code programming directly from the blueprint when needed., • Set up mills or lathes and adjust tooling, offsets, and fixtures to achieve required tolerances., • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles during setup, machining, and inspection., • Follow all safety procedures while working around moving machinery in a shop environment. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes., • Experience with Haas CNC machines in a production or job shop environment., • Ability to perform mill or lathe setups, including tooling, offsets, and workholding., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings., • Ability to perform G-code programming from a blueprint at the machine control., • Strong understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)., • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills in a machining environment., • Solid utilization of basic mathematics and geometry for machining and inspection tasks., • Knowledge and use of a wide variety of inspection equipment and techniques, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and CMM., • Effective communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment., • Eligibility to work on ITAR-controlled programs as a US Person. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience machining on both mills and lathes in a precision manufacturing environment., • Experience working with Fanuc or similar CNC controls., • Prior experience in aerospace or other highly regulated industries., • Experience performing first article and in-process inspections., • Demonstrated ability to train or mentor other machine operators., • Comfort working from complex blueprints that include GD&T callouts. Work Environment This role is based in a newly renovated aerospace manufacturing facility near PCI and the Rockford Airport. You will work on 1st shift, Monday through Friday, typically from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with extended hours of 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when overtime is required. The position operates in a shop environment around moving machinery, where safety awareness is essential. While much of the work is performed at machines or workstations, the role requires the ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed throughout the shift. The environment is structured, production-focused, and centered around precision aerospace machining and inspection technologies, including CNC mills, lathes, Haas and Mazak equipment, and CMM inspection systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
