Job Description PURPOSE AND PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITES An Abrasive Blaster is a skilled professional responsible for preparing surfaces for various industrial applications by using abrasive materials to remove dirt, rust, paint, and other contaminants. The role requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to safety regulations. Abrasive Blasters commonly work in industries such as construction, manufacturing, shipbuilding, automotive, and maintenance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Surface Preparation: Utilize various abrasive blasting techniques, such as sandblasting, shot blasting, bead blasting, and grit blasting, to clean and prepare surfaces for further processes like painting, coating, welding, or inspection., • Equipment Setup: Set up and calibrate abrasive blasting equipment, including compressors, blasting pots, nozzles, hoses, and containment systems, ensuring proper functionality and safety measures., • Material Selection: Choose appropriate abrasive materials, such as sand, steel grit, aluminum oxide, or glass beads, based on the nature of the surface, desired outcome, and specific industry requirements., • Surface Inspection: Thoroughly examine surfaces before and after blasting to assess the effectiveness of the process, identify defects, and ensure that the desired surface profile has been achieved., • Safety Compliance: Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to protect oneself and others from hazards associated with abrasive blasting, including wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), setting up proper ventilation, and implementing containment measures to prevent environmental contamination., • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of abrasive blasting equipment to ensure its optimal performance and longevity., • Surface Profiling: Adjust blasting techniques and parameters to achieve specific surface profiles required for different coating applications, considering factors such as adhesion and corrosion resistance., • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including surface preparation methods, materials used, equipment settings, and any issues encountered during the blasting process., • Collaboration: Coordinate with other team members, such as painters, coatings inspectors, and supervisors, to ensure seamless workflow and the achievement of project goals., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Previous experience in abrasive blasting or related field is preferred., • Knowledge of different types of abrasive materials and their applications., • Familiarity with various blasting equipment and their operation., • Strong understanding of safety regulations and practices in an industrial setting., • To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government., • Attention to detail and the ability to achieve specific surface profiles., • Physical fitness and the ability to work in physically demanding environments., • Effective communication skills for teamwork and following instructions., • Problem-solving skills to address issues during the blasting process.
