Your new company \nA leading UK consultancy and provider of engineering solutions to the public and private sectors that support critical infrastructure and complex facilities. \n\nYour new role \nThe Head of Digital Transformation is responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation's AI and digital efficiency agenda within the Transport Infrastructure business, with a strong focus on Rail and Highways operations. Working closely with a range of stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of frontline operations, they will identify opportunities for digital and AI‑enabled improvement, leading complex transformation initiatives end‑to‑end, standardising and optimising processes, and driving behavioural and cultural change to embed new ways of working. \n\nResponsibilities:\n\nEngage regularly with operational and frontline teams to understand current processes, pain points, and opportunities for digital or AI‑enabled improvement.\nLead and coordinate digital transformation initiatives end‑to‑end, from problem definition and solution design through to implementation, adoption, and performance tracking.\nWork closely with senior leaders, technical teams, and delivery partners to align digital activity with business strategy, priorities, and measurable outcomes.\nIdentify, assess, and prioritise emerging digital, automation, and AI technologies that can demonstrably improve productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.\nDrive standardisation and optimisation of systems and processes, reducing duplication and complexity while building a more integrated digital ecosystem.\nActively challenge existing ways of working and support change management efforts, ensuring new tools and processes are embedded, adopted, and delivering lasting value. \n\nWhat you'll need to succeed \n\nProven experience leading complex digital or business transformation programmes end‑to‑end, with a strong track record of delivering measurable operational and commercial outcomes.\nStrong programme, project, and PMO capability, bringing structure, governance, and discipline to multi‑stream transformation initiatives.\nHigh level of digital and technical fluency, with a solid understanding of process improvement, automation, and AI‑enabled solutions and how they create real business value.\nDemonstrated ability to influence, challenge, and engage stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders, operational teams, and technical specialists.\nDeep experience in change management, with the confidence to disrupt entrenched ways of working and successfully embed new tools, processes, and behaviours.\nNaturally curious, collaborative, and commercially minded individual with high personal accountability and a strong drive to improve frontline productivity and performance.\nProfessional certifications in Project / Change Management (MSP / Prince2 / APMG), IT Leadership (ITIL / TOGAF) and/or Process Improvement (Lean Six Sigma) are desirable. \n\nWhat you'll get in return \nYou can expect a competitive salary in the region of £130,000 (depending on experience) along with a generous pension scheme, 25 days holiday and a range of flexible benefits.\n\n*Please only apply if you have experience of delivering large scale digital transformation initiatives within the Transport / Critical Infrastructure industry or related sectors. \n\nHays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
