To support this, we are recruiting a Head of Data and Analytics — a pivotal new role that will shape how we use data to drive investment performance, insight, and operational excellence across LGPS Central. Based in Wolverhampton, this role will take delegated responsibility from the Chief Operating and Technology Officer (COTO) for implementing our enterprise Data Strategy — overseeing our data architecture, analytics capability, and governance frameworks. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening our data infrastructure to support a £45bn pension pool (set to grow significantly by March 2026), enabling smarter, faster, and more informed decision-making across every part of the business. What you'll be doing: What you’ll be doing As our Head of Data and Analytics, you’ll lead the design, delivery, and embedding of our enterprise Data Strategy. Here’s a flavour of what you’ll get involved in: Strategic Leadership • Lead the implementation of LGPS Central’s enterprise Data Strategy, ensuring data becomes a trusted and strategic asset across the organisation., • Develop and deliver a target data architecture that supports performance reporting, portfolio management, risk oversight, and regulatory compliance., • Work in partnership with the Chief Operating and Technology Officer (COTO) and Data Director to define the roadmap for data and analytics capability., • Embed a culture of data-driven decision making, improving how data is used to guide investment and business outcomes. Data Governance and Quality • Establish and maintain a robust data governance and quality framework in line with FCA and global regulatory standards., • Strengthen data controls, lineage, and stewardship processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all business areas., • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reporting standards, regulatory compliance, and data transparency. Enterprise Data Solutions and Analytics • Oversee the design, implementation, and adoption of LGPS Central’s new enterprise data platform, from vendor selection to rollout and business integration., • Build and optimise data workflows and analytics models that enhance reporting, insight generation, and operational efficiency., • Deliver accurate and timely management information and dashboards for ExCo, Board, and regulators., • Drive automation and innovation across analytics and reporting to improve speed, accuracy, and insight delivery. Collaboration and Influence • Work closely with internal teams across Investment, Risk, Operations, Compliance, and Finance to align data priorities with business needs., • Build trusted relationships with key external partners, including vendors, consultants, regulators, and Partner Funds., • Act as a bridge between business and technology, ensuring data and analytics solutions are relevant, scalable, and value-driven. Requirements Technical Expertise • Proven experience in a data and analytics leadership role within financial services, investment management, or pensions., • Track record of implementing enterprise data solutions, data warehouses, or analytics platforms., • In-depth understanding of data governance, data quality management, and regulatory compliance requirements (including FCA expectations)., • Strong technical proficiency with SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools. The Senior Investment Risk Manager plays a key role in ensuring that LGPS Central’s Investment Risk Policy is effectively embedded across Public and Private Markets. The role provides leadership and subject-matter expertise in the design, delivery and continuous improvement of investment risk management, ensuring that frameworks, processes and systems are robust, proportionate and value-adding. Working closely with the Head of Investment Risk, the postholder will help shape the firm’s investment risk culture, enhance analytical capability, and strengthen how we identify, measure and communicate risk. This is a hands-on, visible role with influence across the business, requiring a mix of quantitative skill, strategic thinking and collaboration. This role is a certified role under the Senior Manager’s Certification Regime and will be subject to assessments in Fitness and Propriety and any other regulatory requirements What you'll be doing: Investment Risk Framework & Governance • Lead the implementation, oversight and ongoing development of the Investment Risk Policy, ensuring alignment with LGPS Central’s Risk Management Framework and regulatory requirements., • Maintain and enhance the Investment Risk Universe, ensuring all relevant risk types (market, credit, liquidity, concentration, model, counterparty, and transition risk) are appropriately captured, monitored and reported., • Coordinate the preparation of Investment Committee, ORCA, and Investment Oversight Committee papers, including analytical insights, risk dashboards and policy updates., • Produce and review detailed daily, weekly and monthly risk reports, ensuring that exposures, risk limits, and factor sensitivities are accurately represented across all portfolios., • Evaluate the outputs of third-party risk systems (e.g. Bloomberg PORT, Aladdin, MSCI Barra) and reconcile key risk metrics to ensure data quality and consistency., • Identify and interpret emerging risk trends (e.g. concentration, style drift, market beta shifts) and provide actionable insights to Portfolio Managers and senior stakeholders., • Collaborate closely with Public Markets teams to monitor exposures across equities, fixed income, and multi-asset strategies, ensuring alignment with risk limits and client mandates., • Establish and maintain consistent oversight frameworks for Private Markets (Private Equity, Private Credit, Property, Infrastructure, Local Investments), ensuring valuation, liquidity, and concentration risks are appropriately assessed., • Support the development of look-through risk analytics for fund-of-funds and limited partnership structures., • Support the launch and lifecycle management of new investment funds or segregated mandates, ensuring appropriate risk controls, performance benchmarks, and stress testing methodologies are established., • Review Investment Management Agreements (IMAs) and fund documentation to ensure risk parameters are clear, measurable and aligned with LGPS Central’s risk appetite., • Act as a visible ambassador for Investment Risk, promoting a culture where risk is viewed as an enabler of informed investment decision-making., • Work collaboratively with Portfolio Managers, Operations and Compliance to enhance risk awareness, challenge and accountability across all investment processes., • Deputise for the Head of Investment Risk where required, representing the team in committees, cross-functional projects and Partner Fund discussions., • Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering development, technical learning and a high-performing team culture., • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives on technology integration, data quality, and automation to strengthen the overall risk infrastructure. Requirements Essential • Demonstrable experience in an Investment Risk Management function within an asset management, pension pooling or financial-services environment., • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in risk modelling, scenario analysis and performance attribution., • Proven ability to manage and interpret large, complex data sets from multiple sources., • In-depth understanding of market, credit and liquidity risk, and the ability to contextualise these within investment decision-making., • Skilled communicator, capable of translating complex data into meaningful insights for both technical and non-technical audiences., • Excellent report-writing and presentation skills, with the ability to prepare Committee papers to a high standard., • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Python, or R for data analysis and visualisation., • Prior involvement in policy drafting, risk model validation, or regulatory risk reporting., • Familiarity with Private Markets risk frameworks, including valuation and liquidity oversight., • Degree level or equivalent, • CFA or equivalent qualification/ relevant investment experience., • Has or can meet all the requirements of being an FCA approved person.
