Assistant Headteacher – PMLD School Location: Liverpool Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 | Full Time (40 hours per week) About the Role We are recruiting an experienced and strategic Assistant Headteacher for a specialist school in Liverpool supporting pupils aged 8–19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), complex needs, and associated social, emotional, interaction, and sensory needs. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an ambitious and values-driven professional who can lead behaviour, attendance, personal development, and pupil wellbeing, while also contributing to curriculum development, teaching quality, and whole-school improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring all pupils receive a high-quality, broad, balanced, and coherent education within a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities Foster a school culture promoting inclusion, dignity, resilience, and high expectations Lead and develop behaviour management, attendance strategies, and personal development programmes Oversee and support curriculum development, teaching quality, and pupil achievement across the school Ensure robust implementation of safeguarding and child protection procedures in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025 Monitor and analyse behaviour and attendance data to inform targeted interventions Promote trauma-informed, therapeutic approaches to support pupils’ complex needs Coordinate pastoral systems to strengthen pupil wellbeing and resilience Support and train staff in behaviour management, safeguarding, and inclusive practice Contribute to school improvement planning and compliance with Independent School Standards Maintain accurate safeguarding, attendance, and behaviour records Work collaboratively with families, external professionals, and multi-agency partners Contribute to budget planning related to pastoral care and behaviour support The Successful Candidate Will: Be a current Senior Leader seeking their next challenge Demonstrate a strong track record of school improvement and pastoral leadership Have extensive understanding of the Ofsted framework and Independent School Standards Show clear leadership experience in safeguarding and staff management Be highly skilled in leading whole-school behaviour systems and positive culture Have experience in curriculum development or strategic curriculum oversight Demonstrate strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice Evidence a secure understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education Hold QTS or QTLS (essential) Benefits NEST enhanced pension scheme Staff referral bonus (split £500 with a friend) Enhanced maternity and paternity pay Access to a Blue Light discount card Fully funded training and qualifications Enhanced pay scales based on experience and qualifications Employee wellbeing scheme and retail discounts Life assurance Why Apply?
