Our Partner School is seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher (KS2) for a contract role in Colchester, Essex, supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a specialist education setting. We are delighted to be supporting a well‑established specialist SEN provision in the Colchester area, run by a respected charity with a long‑standing commitment to supporting children with autism and complex needs. The school provides education for young people aged 3 - 19 with autism, communication differences, and a range of associated needs.\n\nThis nurturing, autism‑focused environment is built on understanding each child as an individual. The team works tirelessly to help pupils grow in confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and self‑esteem.\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe are seeking a compassionate, dedicated SEN Teacher (KS2) to teach a class of pupils with autism who have a range of communication and behavioural needs. You will be supported by an experienced multi‑disciplinary team who share your passion for creating inspiring, personalised learning experiences.\n\nThis is a fixed‑term contract until July, with the potential to become a permanent role depending on school needs and performance.\n\nWorking within this specialist setting, you will deliver a strengths‑based curriculum that celebrates progress in many forms; not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and developmentally.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nPlan and deliver engaging, individualised lessons for pupils with autism and complex learning profiles.\n\nAssess progress regularly and adapt teaching strategies to meet each child’s unique needs.\n\nUse autism‑specific approaches and trauma‑informed behaviour strategies to support positive outcomes.\n\nWork collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team.\n\nMaintain thorough records, contribute to reviews, and participate in team meetings.\n\nCreate a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that supports communication, emotional regulation, and wellbeing.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\nWe would love to hear from you if you have:\n\nQTS (or very strong SEN experience - teaching qualifications outside mainstream will also be considered).\n\nExperience supporting KS2 pupils with autism, communication differences, and behavioural challenges.\n\nKnowledge of autism‑specific pedagogy and an enthusiasm for creative, child‑centred teaching.\n\nStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team.\n\nResilience, warmth, and a genuine commitment to supporting children with complex needs.\n\nAn Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).\n\nSafeguarding & Equal Opportunities\n\nSafeguarding the welfare of children and young people is our highest priority.
