Job Description Title: Communications Coordinator Status: Full-time Reports to: Executive Director Salary: $23-26 Hourly, DOQ Dream of Wild Health (DWH) is celebrating 28 years of working to restore health and wellbeing within the Twin Cities Native American community and has grown to a 30-acre farm in Hugo with an office in Minneapolis. The Communications Coordinator leads the organization’s communications and marketing efforts. This role is responsible for implementing communication strategies, overseeing media outreach, graphic design and materials (like newsletters, reports, and campaigns), and maintaining a strong online presence. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and brings a strong capability for culturally-responsive storytelling. Key Responsibilities Lead and implement communications strategies that honor Indigenous knowledge, community relationships, and cultural protocols while ensuring all communications accurately reflect Dream of Wild Health's mission, values, and brand Serve as the organization's brand steward by maintaining consistent messaging, visual identity, tone, and voice across all communication channels Develop, manage, and maintain DWH's social media strategy and content calendar across all platforms Respond to media and communications inquiries in a timely and professional manner Collaborate with the Executive Director and Development staff to support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, grant communications, and stewardship materials. Maintain and update the organizational communications plan and related staff materials Design and develop print and digital communications, including monthly newsletters, annual reports, brochures, fundraising materials, press releases, and other communications Manage and update website content to reflect current programs and priorities Coordinate, design, write and produce multimedia content for web and print Capture stories, interviews, photography, and video that highlight DWH's programs, participants, staff, and community while ensuring appropriate media releases and cultural protocols are followed Lead promotions and outreach for events, campaigns, and key initiatives through media channels Support internal teams to meet communications goals through collaborative planning and execution Orient staff with communications expectations and brand guidelines Promote and provide communications support for events on the farm, in the community, and online Assist with coordination of logistics and communications during events as needed Coordinate production and printing of promotional materials with external vendors Manage multiple projects and deadlines independently and in collaboration with staff Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational priorities Qualifications: Associate’s degree in communications/marketing or related field, plus 2+ yrs experience or equivalent Experience working in nonprofit communications, incl. media relations, branding, public engagement Proficiency in graphic design tools and platforms, as well as website and social media management Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Self-motivated, creative, and able to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams Comfortable learning new tools and technologies, and producing content quickly and effectively Demonstrated experience working with Native communities and a commitment to culturally responsive communications that honor Indigenous values, knowledge, and storytelling Requirements: Must pass a criminal background check; must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including prolonged computer work, occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, and standing or walking for extended periods during events and flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends. This position follows a hybrid work schedule (remote, farm, office), but must have the ability to travel to attend events, activities, meetings, and training and conferences. Each year Dream of Wild Health teaches Native American youth about gardening, cooking, and culture while developing job and leadership skills throughout youth programs. Dream of Wild Health runs a CSA called the Indigenous Food Share (IFS) and sells produce at the Four Sisters Farmers Market in Minneapolis. We also grow Indigenous foods including corn, beans and squash from a collection of rare seeds that were given to us by Cora Baker, a Potawatomi elder. Dream of Wild Health partners with dozens of urban and tribal organizations on programs that work to restore the mental, physical, and emotional health of the Native American community. DWH is a founding member of the Indigenous Seedkeepers Alliance, a network of Native people and organizations dedicated to returning indigenous foods to our communities.
