TITLE: Chief Development Officer PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Executive Professional DEPARTMENT: Resource Development REPORTS TO: CEO FLSA Status: Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Development Officer (CDO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for designing and leading a bold, integrated resource development strategy to sustain and grow the organization’s philanthropic revenue. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CDO oversees a high-performing department of 12-14 staff, including four direct reports, and is charged with advancing all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, volunteer services, signature events, board engagement, and donor database (CRM) management. The CDO partners closely with the CEO, senior leadership team, and Board of Directors to shape organizational strategy and ensure a unified, mission-driven vision for philanthropy. This leader is accountable for annual and multi-year fundraising across individual giving, major gifts, capital and comprehensive campaigns, corporate and foundation support, planned giving, and signature events. The CDO acts as chief strategist, external ambassador, and internal champion for philanthropy, driving growth, innovation, and best practices in all aspects of resource development. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Executive Leadership:Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy and ensuring that philanthropy plays a central role in achieving the mission.Provide visionary leadership, strategic guidance, and transparent accountability to the resource development team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and high performance.Partner with the CEO to engage board leaders, staff, and volunteers in high-impact fundraising activities that expand philanthropic capacity over the long term. Strategic Planning & Development:Design and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy that aligns with organizational priorities and establishes ambitious yet achievable revenue targets.Lead all contributed revenue initiatives, including the annual giving program, major gifts, capital/comprehensive campaigns, planned giving, grants, fundraising events, corporate sponsorships, and digital campaigns.Personally cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, institutional funders, and community leaders, while equipping the CEO, board, and volunteers with the tools and strategies necessary for successful engagement and solicitation.Collaborate with the Marketing department to ensure consistent, compelling, and mission-driven messaging that inspires donors and strengthens brand positioning.Oversee the planning, execution, and impact measurement of fundraising events and direct mail campaigns, ensuring maximum return on investment and donor engagement. Board and Volunteer EngagementServe as chief liaison to the Board Resource Development Committee and other development-related ad hoc committees, fostering a culture of board leadership in philanthropy.Partner with the CEO to design and execute the annual board giving campaign, securing 100% participation and leveraging networks for expanded philanthropic reach.Provide strategic support to the Board Governance and Finance Committees by delivering accurate, timely revenue projections, analysis, and guidance to align financial sustainability with program priorities.Champion volunteer engagement across the organization, ensuring that volunteers are recruited, supported, and integrated as partners in advancing fundraising goals. Data, Technology, and Business IntelligenceOversee strategic implementation and optimization of the organization’s donor CRM, ensuring accuracy, functionality, and effective use of donor analytics.Direct the timely and accurate recording of all revenues, including operating, capital, individual, and endowment gifts.Use data-driven insights, dashboard reporting, and trend analysis to inform fundraising strategy, campaign design, and performance management. Financial Stewardship and Budget OversightDevelop, manage, and monitor the Resource Development department budget, ensuring alignment between revenue forecasting, staffing, and operational investments.Work in concert with the CFO to project annual philanthropic revenue and provide regular updates on cash flow, pledges, surpluses, and potential shortfalls.Ensure compliance with organizational, ethical, and regulatory standards for fundraising, gift acceptance, and donor stewardship. External Partnerships and Community EngagementBuild and sustain partnerships with foundations, corporations, government entities, civic organizations, and other youth-serving nonprofits to expand investment in the BGCCF’s mission.Represent the organization as an ambassador and thought leader at community, civic, and philanthropic events, raising visibility and cultivating new networks of support. Department and Talent ManagementLead, mentor, and evaluate a diverse team of development professionals, building capacity through coaching, clear goals, and professional development opportunities.Foster cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring alignment between development, grants, programs, operations, finance, and communications.Ensure efficient operations through documented and regularly maintained best-in-class fundraising systems, policies, procedures, and performance benchmarks. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Education, Experience & Skills)Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; advanced degree a plus.Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit operations, with a strong emphasis on fundraising leadership.Demonstrated success in both annual and capital campaign management, including designing and executing growth strategies across individual, corporate, foundation, and digital giving streams.Comprehensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and techniques, including online and digital giving, social media campaigns, direct mail, special events, and volunteer-driven fundraising initiatives.Experience leading a large, complex development team, providing strategic oversight, supervision, mentoring, and professional development.Proven ability to develop and manage departmental budgets, aligning financial resources with strategic priorities.Experience working with or within youth-serving organizations is strongly preferred.Prior experience raising funds to sustain an organizational budget of $20M+ is highly desirable, particularly with significant reliance on philanthropic and government sources.Direct experience working within a diverse philanthropic community and cultivating strong networks of donors and partners is highly valued.Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to persuasively articulate mission and impact to diverse audiences, including major donors, institutional funders, volunteers, and civic leaders.Strong interpersonal ability to initiate, cultivate, and sustain effective working relationships with staff, board members, volunteers, community groups, and external stakeholders.Demonstrated excellence in leadership, team building, collaboration, and mentoring, with an ability to inspire and drive performance across a staff of varying levels.High-level proficiency in fundraising databases, preferably Salesforce, and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.A strategic and persuasive leader with the ability to set vision and create alignment while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic nonprofit environment. ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise, hire, train, manage, and mentor staff. RelationshipsInternal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. External: Maintains contact with members, families, alumni, community leaders, youth-serving professionals, other Clubs, media contacts, donors, volunteers, board members, vendors, consultants, organizations, firms, financial institutions, and others to achieve program goals and objectives, manage costs, share information, and resolve problems. Other ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:The position requires working in both indoor and outdoor environments of an office or club setting, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals.Required to operate a motor vehicle.Work in environments frequented by children and families, requiring adherence to safety and conduct standards that ensure a child-friendly and family-oriented atmosphere.Must be adaptable to a dynamic work schedule, including evenings to support club activities and events.Weekly travel to events, meetings, and clubs within the Orlando Metro area. Occasional overnight travel. In-office position in a professional office setting. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Physically capable of performing programming activities and club duties on-site, including lifting to 30 pounds, standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods, bending, and reaching.Operates a computer and other office productivity equipment such as a copy machine, phone, printer, and tablet frequently. Requires the ability to work on a computer for extended periods (8+ hours), including performing tasks that involve repetitive motion, visual focus, and fine motor skillsVisual and auditory acuity to monitor the environment and ensure safety standards are maintained.Mental resilience and the ability to stay focused and effective in a busy, sometimes noisy environment.Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with children, family members, and other staff.Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (occasionally).
