About the team: The Software Engineering Team builds and operates the software systems that power Formic's Robotics-as-a-Service platform. The team develops the control, monitoring, provisioning, and data infrastructure that enables real-time visibility and performance across a growing fleet of deployed industrial robotic systems. Engineering works across machine-level controls, edge systems, and cloud infrastructure to ensure deployments are observable, resilient, remotely diagnosable, and continuously improving at scale. Our software runs in production factories every day and directly impacts uptime, service efficiency, and customer outcomes. About the role: As a Robotics Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development and integration of the software systems that power Formic's robotic deployments. You will work across robot programming, control logic, and system integration, helping translate production requirements into reliable, scalable automation systems. This role bridges robotics software and industrial systems. You will contribute to core system development while also supporting deployment and validation in real manufacturing environments. In this role you will: • Contribute to development of in-house robotics systems, • Develop and modify robot programs across supported industrial platforms, • Design and maintain machine control logic across PLCs and IPCs, • Integrate sensors, conveyors, safety systems, and other industrial peripherals, • Collaborate with engineers across controls, infrastructure, and deployment, • Support system bring-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting, • Contribute to integration testing and production readiness validation, • 5+ years of experience in robotics, embedded systems, or industrial automation, • Strong experience with Python and/or C++, • Familiarity with ROS, Linux, or similar robotics frameworks, • Experience working with industrial robots and their APIs, • Exposure to PLC logic or industrial control systems, • Ability to operate in both development and deployment environments, • Comfortable working in production-grade industrial systems, • You are located in the greater Chicago, IL area and are able to work in person five days per week in Woodridge, IL #LI-MB1 Our Total Rewards: At Formic, we believe people do their best work when they feel supported both professionally and personally.
