Job DescriptionJob Title: Lead Technician Job Description The Lead Technician diagnoses, repairs, and services fractional horsepower gasoline engines and related power equipment used in lawn and garden applications. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with clear communication, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. The Lead Technician works closely with internal teams to ensure timely, accurate repairs and reliable service for customers. Responsibilities • Identify and diagnose problems with fractional horsepower gasoline engines used to power lawnmowers, garden tractors, and similar machines, resolving issues in a timely and efficient manner., • Locate causes of mechanical and electrical trouble by dismantling parts, examining components for defects, and determining appropriate repair methods., • Clean, adjust, replace, or repair parts and components as needed and as authorized by the customer, ensuring all work meets quality standards., • Set up new equipment, perform necessary pre-delivery inspections, and deliver equipment to customers as required., • Communicate daily with the Parts Customer Service Representative and/or Sales Center leadership regarding diagnoses, recommended courses of action, repair status, and any parts or scheduling needs., • Tow a utility trailer to support equipment service and sales orders when needed., • Use, care for, and safeguard company-issued tools and customer equipment, treating all assets with the utmost care and professionalism., • Observe and follow all safety and security procedures in accordance with OSHA and company guidelines, including proper use of PPE and equipment such as lifts., • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with persistence, using critical thinking to identify root causes and effective solutions., • Multitask between multiple repair jobs and prioritize work to meet deadlines, including committing to overtime when necessary., • Maintain composure and a customer-focused mindset while working in a fast-paced environment serving business owners with urgent needs., • Work cooperatively as part of a small technical team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a dependable, team-oriented environment., • Use computer systems, programs, handheld technology, and evolving processes to document work, access information, and support efficient operations., • Perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as required for measurements and repair tasks., • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall operation of the service center.Essential Skills, • At least 2+ years of experience repairing landscaping equipment or working on motorcycle engines., • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in engine repair and power equipment service., • Proficiency in diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair of small engines and related systems., • Ability to set up new equipment and prepare it for delivery to customers., • Ability to tow a utility trailer for equipment service and sales orders., • Ownership of a basic set of hand tools suitable for general repair of engines and power equipment (such as drills, wrenches, sockets, and pliers)., • Willingness and ability to acquire Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE) industry certifications and maintain manufacturers’ annual updates., • Ability to maintain composure and productivity in a fast-paced environment focused on serving business owners with urgent needs., • Investigative mindset with strong troubleshooting skills and persistence in identifying and resolving problems., • Dependable, cooperative team player with a strong sense of responsibility and reliability., • Awareness of how behind-the-scenes actions and repair quality impact overall customer service., • Aptitude and willingness to learn and adapt to evolving computer systems, software programs, handheld technology, and processes., • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals., • Physical dexterity, coordination, and steadiness to safely and effectively perform mechanical repair tasks., • Commitment to following OSHA and company safety and security procedures.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • High school diploma or GED is preferred., • Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) are a plus., • Experience working with a variety of small engines, including two-cycle, four-cycle, and light diesel engines, is helpful., • Experience with electrical and hydraulic units in addition to mechanical systems is beneficial., • Equipment and Engine Training Certifications (EETC) are preferred and considered a strong asset., • Prior experience using hand tools and service equipment in a shop or service center environment., • Strong critical-thinking skills and a proactive approach to learning new technologies and repair techniques.Why Work Here? Work Environment You work as part of a small, close-knit team of approximately five technicians in a service center environment that is not customer facing, allowing you to focus on quality repairs and teamwork. The shop is equipped with lifts and personal protective equipment to support a safe, OSHA-conscious workplace. Technicians are expected to bring their own basic hand tools, such as drills, wrenches, sockets, and pliers, while the company provides additional equipment and resources needed to perform repairs. The role relies on both traditional mechanical tools and modern technology, including computer systems and handheld devices, to manage work orders and technical information. The schedule follows a Monday through Friday workweek, with core hours typically from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and flexibility to work any 8-hour shift between 5:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with overtime available as needed to meet customer and operational demands. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
