POSITION SUMMARY The General Superintendent is responsible for the guidance and development (care, coaching and mentoring) of our field operations teams including superintendents, foreman and craft workers, identifying high performing/potential individuals and creating opportunities for development to their full potential in support of sustainable enterprise operations and future advancement. Through servant leadership, support a field operations culture that “makes them want to be here”- I see you, I hear you, You matter! Create personal, trusting, and supportive relationships with assigned teams, and ensure behavior that supports the companies Purpose, Vision and Values. Partner with the Project Team and Safety Director to ensure the successful implementation of the Company’s Environmental Safety and Health Plan, including training, proper planning, hazard identification/mitigation, regulatory compliance, best practices, and thorough incident response creating a safety culture that supports Zero incidents/accidents. Responsible to positively influence the construction performance of field operations on assigned projects. Be a resource to the superintendents and monitor procedures, work methods, productivity, labor costs, safety performance and staffing requirements. Ensure the companies operational performance criteria is met or exceeded including Safety, Profitability, Relationships, Quality and Schedule on all assigned projects. Engage in the Construction Life Cycle and be the SME in support of assigned projects ensuring they meet the goals of the Long-Range Plan. Support a communication bridge between field and office personnel, ensuring everyone is focused on the common goals of the organization and benefit from the employee value proposition (EVP). Enforces Company standards and makes decisions that are always in the best interest of the overall enterprise. “People are the work, human behavior is the data” PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Safety • Support the development of appropriate Site-Specific Safety Plans for assigned projects that establish a strong safety culture and performance that achieves zero incidents/accidents., • Promote the belief that every injury and incident is Lead by example and be vocal and engaged in safety communications, status, successes, and improvements., • Promote the Lewis “Working Safe for Life- Living Safe for Life” message on jobsites., • Audit assigned projects for compliance with the Lewis EHS plan and all regulatory Participate in compliance inspections when requested., • Support safety best practices that create personal accountability for protecting ourselves, coworkers, and the public from harm at all times., • Audit assigned projects to ensure all employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policies and Provide feedback and assist in enforcing safety standards, policies, and training., • Practice Team Norms- Grow the Team, One Aligned Team, Curious Listening and Elevated Leadership that supports the Purpose, Vision and Values of the company., • Active participant at the DCAT Business Provide input on timely and relevant topics that affect our business performance including strategic planning, project risk, and resourcing., • Visit active projects and meet regularly with direct reports and project Review and monitor their performance and provide them specific feedback to foster professional growth and accountability., • Lead and motivate diverse teams to achieve high levels of Establish and foster team environment, particularly between field and office personnel., • Lead by example, demonstrating curious listening and open, honest, candid, and respectful., • Participate in Company initiatives and be a spokesperson representing the Division’s field operations at Company and/or industry., • Support and encourage the use of the LMS, learning maps, core competencies, transition meetings, evaluations, and mentoring systems to advance personal and professional development of all field personnel., • Participate in resource conversations to ensure appropriate field staffing levels are met and team talent is balanced across the division to support the successful execution on all projects. Provide input and recommendations related to staffing assignments for Superintendents, Foremen and other key field personnel., • Identify and support development of high potential field employees with the skills, qualities, and self-awareness necessary to advance their careers., • Support succession planning at all tiers of field operations, adopting a “train your replacement” culture., • Identify 1-2 successor candidates for the current Create and implement individual development plans for them., • Catch people doing something right and acknowledge them through a letter, Starting Sunday, Quarterly Meeting or just “thank you for doing your very best today”., • Participate in resourcing decisions related to recruitment, hiring, firing, promoting and compensation for key hourly and salaried field personnel., • Ensure completion of annual performance appraisals for all Superintendents and encourage transition meeting conversations with all foremen., • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients & key Instill confidence by demonstrating experienced senior leadership support when called upon., • Selectively participate in industry associations to build relationships and stay abreast of issues that may affect the business., • Actively participate in industry, client, and community events to enhance the Lewis brand., • Lend field expertise to sales proposals and interviews as necessary to secure new work., • Assist and support the Project Executives, Project Managers and Superintendent, providing field expertise as necessary during the preconstruction period, to ensure all projects are set up for success, including:, • Constructability Review of Documents, • Site Logistics Plan, • Detailed Project Schedule, • Site Specific Safety Plan, • BIM Execution Plan, • Participate in peer reviews of the estimate with a particular focus on field labor, material and equipment costs. Support the estimate consolidation effort to ensure it is complete and available for use by the project team at the beginning of construction., • Evaluate and advise on major equipment selection, optimizing cost, production, safety and quality., • Collaborate to integrate Company standards, including project planning, logistics, scheduling and purchasing as defined in the Construction Lifecycle., • Attend and participate in peer reviews and project audits on assigned projects to ensure the specific goals relating to successful outcomes are being Celebrate superlative performance and share success factors across the organization. Intervene when performance suffers and support the team towards prompt resolution., • Ensure project teams are utilizing performance tools, like the detailed labor report, to monitor overall project performance and adjust where, • Support project teams with the resolution of significant construction risks, by providing wisdom, experience, technical knowledge, relationships and problem-solving skills., • Promote the adherence to Company policies and standardized management systems., • Actively support the VDC/BIM process on the projects that produces value for our internal and external clients through workwise implementation and continued innovation., • Support the use of the Lewis yard for jobsite rental and material needs, maximizing the opportunity for additional Be aware of other opportunities that are influenced by field operations., • Be an innovation leader at Lewis, incorporating new technologies into project execution with a focus on continuous improvement., • Minimum 15 years’ experience in commercial construction management overseeing multiple, multi-million-dollar projects., • This position requires proven expertise in self-perform work, construction management, budget development and control, estimating, preconstruction, and field personnel management., • Extensive experience and knowledge working with regulatory agencies throughout the critical construction period., • Proven ability to solve complex problems in a collaborative, team-based culture., • Proven ability to hire, develop, and motivate high-performance teams., • Proven ability in presenting, public speaking and written communications., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and project management software, preferably Primavera (P6), Phoenix or Microsoft Familiarity with Procore or other project planning tools is preferred., • Safety training, including completion of OSHA 30 and current First Aid, CPR, and AED training.
