Summary: Tests, troubleshoots, repairs and/or modifies developmental and production electronic components, equipment and systems by performing the following duties: Adjusts switches, pressures, flows, parameters, machine positions, etc. as needed for controls debug. Conducts software system tests for functionality, diagnostics and machine recovery procedures. Documents conditions under which tests are conducted, sequences and phases of test operations in simulation programs and/or at actual machine. Directs and exercises control over operational, functional, and performance phases of tests. Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel. Develops an evaluation of system performance under actual operating conditions. Writes technical reports and develops charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations. Can be required to assist in the engineering phase of the project including evaluating the interface between hardware and software, and the operational and performance requirements of the overall system; developing simulation programs to pretest software functionality; resolving testing such as product or system malfunctions and data interpretation; supporting engineering in design and verification of all software aspects including Ladder Logic, CNC programming, high level programming and data administration. Can be required to assist in the service phase of the project including supporting the tryout and runoff of the project in the field and/or following the project into the field for final debug and runoff with automation, ancillary equipment, etc. Adheres to quality, customs, foreign trade zone and environmental processes and procedures. Shares ideas about process improvements and other cost saving measures with management. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical specifications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. PROGRAMMING SKILLS Proficient at ladder logic, basic CNC programming and understanding flow charts. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Must possess a thorough understanding of process and physics for integrated systems, metal cutting and assembly machines. Knowledgeable in electronic database, spreadsheet, word processing and project management software. Must be capable of developing and/or debugging software in the engineering phase of a project. OTHER REQUIREMENTS May be required to work split or alternate shifts. Must be able to travel for extended periods as required for customer installations.
