Job DescriptionDescription: Job Category: Year Round – Salaried Professional Employees Classification: FTE 1.0 Job Location: Onsite Starting Salary: $41,400 - $68,400 Reports To: Director of Family Engagement Position Summary HCPA is a Title I Charter School that serves students through a school-wide plan for instruction that is focused on the needs of at-risk students. The Karen Student and Community Liaison serves as a liaison between students, parents, schools, businesses, agencies and the community to connect families and students to resources and supports, to help them be successful in school and as a family unit. Responsibilities • Assists with the coordination and improvement of parent, school and community communications and the academic achievement of all students., • Increase parental involvement and engagement in the school., • Encourage parent participation in their student’s classroom at school-wide events., • Organize parent/community activities and events by providing information and resources, • Participates in regular parent meetings and events around topics of key concerns to parents, • Identify and responds to day-to-day parent concerns related to school and school community, • Work with the administrative team to resolve parent issues in a timely manner, • Serve as the main contact and mediator/translator between parents and school., • Assist with the integration into school for families who are new to the community (e.g., student enrollment, paperwork, etc.), • Provide student support as needed, • Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students., • Assists with the communication of student attendance concerns., • Support all Attendance MTSS processes and case management for students with attendance issues., • Collaborate with families, the counseling team, student enrollment team, academic teams, and other departments to address and streamline absenteeism, including tardiness, truancy issues, state reporting, and other necessary needs., • Responsible for growing the student population and maintain long standing relationships with families, • Increase annual student population as needed and achieve marketing goals, • Translate and interpret as needed, • Help build relationships with the Karen population and organizations in the area, • Assist in developing communications (Translate documentation as required. Flyers, letters, materials, etc.), • Coordinate and assist all school events, • Assist in ongoing home visits as needed, • Assist in ongoing parents/student outreach and/or phone calls to current parents/students to retain current enrolled students, • Provide assistance to other departments as assigned, • Supervise student activities, which may include: o Bus duty – assist with walking students to the busses at the end of the day o Breakfast and/or lunch duty – assist with monitoring based on a rotational schedule • Complete additional tasks as deemed necessary by the School Director- which will be delegated by the Office Manager and/or Administrative Coordinator. Accountabilities • Supports school goals and objectives consistent with the vision, mission, and values of HCPA., • Participates in creating a culture of excellence, teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students, and families; a culture that is positive, open to the views of others, and uses social skills to resolve conflicts., • Establishes and maintains effective and cooperative relationships with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff., • Responds appropriately and promptly to parent, student, and staff member needs., • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting. Engagement Activities Volunteer activities One volunteer activity is Required. Salaried employees may select the activity that best fits with their interests and areas of expertise. These activities may include school dances, prom, concerts, theatre productions, etc. Required activities: • Fall and Spring Parent /Teacher Conferences, • Kindergarten Round-up and Literacy Night, • New Student Open House, • HCPA Graduation Misc. Committees There are many additional opportunities for salaried staff to engage with the community and personally expand their skills. Participation in these committees is highly encouraged. Requirements: Required Qualifications • Associate Degree or equivalent of experience., • Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative learning environment., • Knowledge of computer operation, applications, data entry and retrieval., • Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and policies., • Knowledge of first aid procedures., • Ability to work under pressure, completing work in an accurate manner while meeting conflicting deadlines and schedules which are often set by others despite frequent interruptions., • Strong interpersonal skills - the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds., • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing., • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task., • Knowledge of the programs, functions, and procedures of a school setting., • Ability to remain calm in emergency and stressful situations., • Ability to exercise initiative and sound and effective judgment within established guidelines., • Ability to Analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action. Preferred Qualifications • Karen language knowledge helpful, but not required., • 3+ years of administrative experience Other Information Transcript - Unofficial transcripts are accepted at the time of hire. You must submit official transcripts within 30 days of your start date. Formal credential evaluation is required for post-secondary education completed outside of the United States. Work Environment/Conditions • Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment; school building is a multi-level building that has an elevator and is accessible., • Position requires extensive interaction with children of all ages., • Possible exposure to loud and noisy locations (e.g. loud classrooms or cafeterias; children speaking or laughing loudly)., • Operate standard equipment (computer, fax machine, telephone, copier machines, etc.)., • Fast-paced environment., • Requires frequent keyboarding which calls for repetitive motion and rapid eye movements, frequent use of the telephone., • Position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time, ability to push, reach, or bend., • Work may require weekend and/or evening work and some travel may be required.
