Job Description Job Title: Flux Core Welder in East Pittsburgh, PA Job Description This role focuses on performing high-quality flux core welding and related fabrication work in a unionized manufacturing environment. You will train on first shift and then transition to second or third shift as needed, using a variety of welding processes and material handling equipment to produce precise, structurally sound components in accordance with shop blueprints and diagrams. Responsibilities • Read and interpret shop blueprints, diagrams, and fabrication drawings to determine material requirements, welding procedures, and layout specifications., • Perform layout, positioning, alignment, fitting, clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, grinding, or bolting of component parts to achieve the required preparation, configuration, and position for welding., • Execute flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) operations, including passing and maintaining proficiency in 2G and 3G weld tests, with the ability to weld in both vertical and horizontal positions., • Operate automatic, semi-automatic, and manual welding equipment using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, and submerged arc welding as required., • Handle and move materials safely using overhead cranes, forklifts, hand tools, and other material handling equipment in accordance with safety guidelines., • Inspect welds and fabricated components for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, making adjustments or repairs as necessary., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and handling of tools, equipment, and materials., • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of welding and material handling equipment., • Work all assigned shifts as required, initially training on first shift and then transitioning to second or third shift based on operational needs and seniority., • Meet production and quality targets while collaborating with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and on-time completion of projects. Essential Skills • Proven ability to read and interpret shop blueprints, diagrams, and fabrication drawings., • Ability to pass a 2G and 3G FCAW weld test and maintain welding quality standards., • Generally 2–4 years of experience performing layout, positioning, aligning, fitting, clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, grinding, or bolting component parts for welding., • Proficiency in flux core welding (FCAW) in both vertical and horizontal positions., • Experience with stainless steel welding and fabrication work., • Hands-on experience operating automatic, semi-automatic, and manual welding equipment., • Ability to handle materials safely by hand, overhead crane, forklift, or other handling equipment., • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, kneel, crawl, push, pull, reach, climb, and carry various materials and equipment., • Willingness and ability to work all shifts, including first, second, and third, with initial training on first shift. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, and submerged arc welding., • Experience in fabrication, including fitting and welding to tight tolerances., • Familiarity with welding in horizontal and vertical positions, including 2G and 3G configurations., • Comfort working in a unionized environment where seniority influences shift assignments., • Ability to consistently meet quality standards and production goals in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Work Environment The role is based in a unionized manufacturing facility with structured shift schedules and comprehensive training. Initial training takes place on first shift, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with production shifts operating across first, second, and third shifts. Second and third shifts run in defined blocks (for example, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. or similar schedules) with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Shift assignments are influenced by seniority, and you must be open to working second or third shift after completing first-shift training. The environment involves regular use of welding equipment (including flux core, MIG, TIG, plasma, and submerged arc processes) and material handling tools such as overhead cranes and forklifts. You can expect at least 40 hours per week, with overtime available but not guaranteed, and weekend overtime often paid at enhanced rates. The facility emphasizes safety, proper use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to established procedures while working with heavy materials and industrial equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Turtle Creek, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $63003.00 - $70000.00/yr. This is a Union environment that offers a high starting pay rate, and Four different health plans through Highmark. Dental and vision offered as well. 401k plan up to 5% match. Overtime is every other weekend, with x1.5 on Saturday and DOUBLE TIME on Sunday. Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Turtle Creek,PA.
