Job DescriptionJob Title: Trailer Mechanic Job Description The Trailer Mechanic performs a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks on trailers and diesel-powered equipment, including structural, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical work. This role focuses on diagnosing issues accurately, completing high-quality repairs, and ensuring all equipment operates safely and reliably. Responsibilities • Perform floor repairs on trailers, ensuring structural integrity and safe operation., • Install body and roof patches to address damage and prevent leaks and corrosion., • Repair overhead and swing doors, including alignment, hardware replacement, and sealing., • Complete lift gate repairs, including hydraulic hose replacement and troubleshooting hydraulic systems., • Carry out suspension repairs by replacing air bags, torque arms, and springs as needed., • Replace and repair landing gear components to ensure stable and safe trailer support., • Perform brake jobs, including replacement and adjustment of brake components, and replace wheel seals., • Diagnose and repair trailer lights and ABS systems to maintain proper electrical and safety functions., • Inspect and test defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using appropriate tools and test instruments., • Use handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, pressure gauges, and other diagnostic tools to identify issues and verify repairs., • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment., • Troubleshoot and repair all makes of vehicles and trailers in accordance with safety and quality standards., • Conduct DOT inspections to ensure equipment complies with regulatory requirements., • Communicate with customers in a clear, professional, and courteous manner regarding findings, repairs, and recommendations., • Work independently without direct supervision while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety., • Abide by all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) specifications and safety protocols at all times., • Attend weekly and monthly safety meetings to stay current on safety practices and company procedures.Essential Skills, • Proven ability to perform trailer repairs, including floors, body panels, roofs, doors, lift gates, suspensions, landing gear, brakes, and wheel seals., • Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, including hydraulic hose replacement and troubleshooting., • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of trailers and diesel-powered equipment., • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems, including trailer lights and ABS., • Competence in performing routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication., • Ability to use diagnostic tools such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges., • Capability to perform DOT inspections and follow regulatory standards., • Ability to work effectively without supervision, managing tasks and time independently., • Clear and courteous communication skills for interacting with customers and team members., • Commitment to following PPE requirements and all safety guidelines.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience as a diesel mechanic or maintenance technician working on trailers or heavy vehicles., • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems., • Attention to detail and a focus on quality workmanship and safety., • Comfort working with various makes and models of vehicles and trailers., • Willingness to participate in ongoing safety training and meetings.Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment centers on hands-on maintenance and repair of trailers and diesel-powered equipment in a shop setting. The role involves routine service tasks like oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication, as well as more complex troubleshooting and repairs. Safety is a core priority, with strict adherence to PPE requirements and regular weekly and monthly safety meetings. Work is performed primarily on all makes of vehicles and trailers, with an expectation of professional conduct and clear communication with customers. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
