Job Description Job Title: Job Description The Brazer assembles and brazes large-diameter copper and steel piping systems used in natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC applications. This role focuses on heavy industrial torch brazing on pipe from 1.5 inches to 4 inches in diameter, working with complex joints in all positions and at elevated temperatures. The position requires precise heat control, thorough joint preparation, and consistent adherence to safety, quality, and testing standards in a modern manufacturing environment. Responsibilities • Perform heavy industrial torch brazing on piping systems ranging from approximately 1 to 4 inches in diameter., • Braze copper to copper, copper to steel, and copper to brass joints for natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC systems., • Assemble and join copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems., • Conduct brazing operations on piping, coils, compressors, valves, and fittings., • Complete brazed joints in multiple positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal orientations., • Heat joints to controlled brazing temperatures, typically between 600°ree;C and 900°ree;C (1,100°ree;F–1,650°ree;F), depending on base metals and filler materials., • Apply silver-based and copper phosphorus filler alloys with melting ranges between 620°ree;C and 780°ree;C (1,150°ree;F–1,435°ree;F)., • Monitor flame characteristics and heat distribution to ensure proper filler flow and to prevent overheating, oxidation, or distortion., • Use continuous nitrogen purging during brazing to prevent internal oxidation and carbon buildup., • Prepare joints by cleaning, fitting, and aligning components prior to heating., • Inspect brazed joints visually and mechanically to verify proper filler flow, penetration, and structural integrity., • Perform pressure and leak testing using approved methods such as nitrogen testing and soap solution., • Repair defective joints and perform controlled rework in accordance with approved procedures., • Maintain torches, regulators, temperature indicators, and gas supply systems in good working condition., • Follow hot work permits, fire prevention protocols, and personal protective equipment requirements at all times., • Record process parameters and report deviations from approved temperature ranges or procedures., • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and piping schematics to complete assemblies accurately., • Participate in quality and continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment., • Use hand tools, power tools, and saws safely and effectively for pipe fitting and assembly tasks., • Support production goals by working the assigned 2nd shift schedule and participating in mandatory overtime as needed to meet deadlines. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a Pipefitter or Industrial Brazing Technician with a focus on heavy industrial brazing (residential-only HVAC brazing experience is not sufficient)., • Hands-on experience with heavy industrial torch brazing on larger diameter pipe, typically 1.5 inches to 4 inches., • Ability to braze copper to copper, copper to steel, and copper to brass joints., • Demonstrated experience achieving and controlling industrial brazing temperatures between approximately 600°ree;C and 900°ree;C (1,100°ree;F–1,650°ree;F)., • Ability to perform brazing in all joint positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal., • Experience working on natural gas, chiller, or industrial HVAC piping systems., • Strong understanding of heat control, joint preparation, and filler material selection., • Familiarity with oxy-acetylene gas equipment and processes for brazing and testing., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and piping schematics., • Familiarity with applicable pressure equipment and piping codes that govern design, fabrication, brazing, inspection, and testing for safety and compliance., • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, saws, and pipe fitting equipment in a manufacturing or industrial environment., • Ability to stand for most of the shift and safely lift and move up to 45 pounds., • Good manual dexterity, hand–arm coordination, and multi-limb coordination to perform precise brazing tasks., • Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift and mandatory overtime as required to meet production deadlines. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Completion of a welding or brazing technical training program is preferred., • Experience in manufacturing, pipefitting, plumbing, or industrial assembly is highly beneficial., • Experience working in an air-conditioned manufacturing facility or industrial environment., • Familiarity with quality control practices, leak testing methods, and documentation of process parameters., • Comfort working under production schedules while maintaining high safety and quality standards., • Ability to climb portable ladders and perform work that may require stooping, kneeling, or crouching., • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement., • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and report issues or deviations promptly. Work Environment The role is based in a modern, state-of-the-art, air-conditioned manufacturing facility that incorporates industry 4.0 technology. The position is on 2nd shift, with a schedule of Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., and includes a shift differential for hours worked on 2nd shift. There is currently mandatory overtime on Fridays to meet production deadlines. The work involves standing for the majority of the shift, lifting and moving up to 45 pounds, and performing tasks that may require walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing portable ladders. The role requires regular use of torches, regulators, temperature indicators, gas supply systems, hand tools, power tools, and saws, along with continuous use of personal protective equipment. Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination are essential for precise brazing work. The facility provides an industrial environment that supports safe hot work practices, and the dress code typically includes steel-toe footwear, jeans or work pants, and a T-shirt or polo. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
